I was just out shooting some things for work and all of a sudden I get this ERR 02 error message on my 5th shot. Now this is a fairly new 20D (bought it thanksgiving weekend) and today was only the second time I shot in RAW plus L. The 2 GB microdrive card is about a year old and is my primary card. I use it a lot, but I don't work it as hard a pro photographer. I've read all the posts about this error message and I'm fairly comfortable knowing it's most likely the card and not the camera. but my question to all of you i this... do you know anyone who had this error message caused by a faulty camera?

I only have one microdrive card with me at work so I can't test the camera with a spare until tonight. Cross your fingers for me that it's not my 20D that is causing the problem.

well a micro drive is a mechanical device, and prone to wear out. more so than a CF card - which gave me an eRR02 recently - a format solved the problem so far.

EDIT: to say the shots i lost were of frozen fog on a sunny sunrise.
not sure you can picture it - but fog in the winter turns to dew - but instead of droplets you get spikey ice formations on everything. and depending on what they form on the shapes and sizes and everything are different. one of the coolest natural phenomenon i have seen so far ! dammit ;}

good luck.

Is there anywhere that gives details on errors for Canon cameras?

I had an 09 error at my last zoo visit - and shutting off the camera did not give me a blank display (top display). Taking out and putting back in resolved the issue.
I have also had my camera "freeze" - where it stops taking photos. Same fix took care of it.

I don't wanna know about an Err 02. I just got done with a very expensive Err 99 on my 300dRebel, and that's enough Err #s for me. (shutter replacement after 2 hard years)
;>)

one more thing... I re-formated the microdrive with a card reader and now it works in my camera again. But who knows how long that will last.

Lesson learned today: carry a spare card all the time even if you don't plan on filling the one in the camera.

I hope I never see that Err 99.
