I can't find a way to import RAW files & retain a simple workflow. Can anyone help?

I have a Mac G4 running OS X 10.4.3, Photoshop CS2, iPhoto 5.0.4, and a Canon EOS350D XT.

Neither CS2 nor iPhoto will recognise my camera for upload of RAW files. I have to use the clunky software that came with the camera to upload, and then move files into iPhoto and CS2 as desired. This seems absurd. I'd like to just use CS2/Bridge alone, or iPhoto plus CS2 if I must.

Apologies to Shannon Calvert, who has tried to help me with this privately (he has the same range of software & hardware as me & his iPhoto does "see" his 350D for RAW file upload) - alas I appear to be too dumb to replicate his success.

Appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

You KNOW I'm not going to give up...

iPhoto 5.0.4 will definitely recognize RAW files from the Rebel XT. I've used it many times, with no other plug-ins or enhancements. RAW recognition is a system-level feature of OS X, so even Preview will open those files. You shouldn't need anything special to upload the files either- just import the images into iPhoto or drag them from your CF card to the computer. Since Camera RAW 3.2 in Photoshop CS2 ALSO recognizes RAW files from the XT, the problem might not be with the computer. Try reformatting your CF card in the camera and see if that helps.

FWIW, iPhoto 6 is much faster and allows you to compare selected images side-by-side in full screen mode.

Goddam! I hoped you wasn't lookin' right now! I know your advice is the best there is on this stuff & just feel dumb that I can't do what you do. I'll try it again. Look for my PM when I fail again!

Could the issue here be that the OP is trying a direct connection of the cam to the 'pooter? I was under the impression that RAW files were not visible when doing this, at least onthe PC, don't know about the mac.

Could be indeed, kirbic. Told ya I was dumb! I'll try it with a card reader today. Thanks. Scalvert, if this IS the problem, then please accept double apologies!

A card reader or a second card reader is also what I'd suggest. ImageCapture (OS X ~Utilities folder), too, is very reliable for imports.

Thank you. I'm sure you (and the others) are correct; use of a card reader instead of direct camera connection will solve the problem. I'll try ImageCapture as well, but I'm determined to make IPhoto and/or CS2 work.
