Anyone using this software to edit? I have been playing around with it on my MAC and find it quite nice in some ways but really lacking in other areas of editing. Is it just my lack of knowledge with this software or is it a BIG NO NO for Apples first attempt at an editing program?
I would really appreciate some input or tips about using it and is it also DPC friendly? Im not even sure how to resize the image to 640x640 and 150k cannot seem to find those settings anywhere and of cause there is no SAVE FOR WEB button.

It's a RAW processor...for more advanced editing you need PS...So far I'd say Thumbs down...there is a LOT of room for improvement. |

Has anyone used Adobe's beta Lightroom? It is free right now, and only for Mac.

Downloaded the beta and installed it but haven't had a chance to play with it yet. The price was a lot more attractive than Aperture, that's for sure! |

what i like is the ability to see many versions of same shot edited slighlty different, not that I have ever shot film, but I think it is like be able to see work on a lightbox and often in my work I have hard time deciding should I saturate a little more etc. would be nice to have that ability to see i.e. 6 versions of one shot at once.
(that being said I got this from watching a demo, I do not own it) |

I've tried it and didn't like it, it's lacking in the areas that it has to be good, like raw editing, metadata registration, portfolio management and other areas.
however, I downloaded the betaversion of Adobes answer to aperture, and it looks really good, all editing has the professional feeling like photoshop, and it's just a betaversion, can't wait to test the final product :)

That is exactly how I got my version.. I have a friend here (who is not short of a few $$$s) he got it and HATED IT! so he called me and said "Can you come over and take this rubbish out my trash basket for me"
Anytime... Although not finished, and HAD I paid $500 for it I would be very disapointed, but at the price I got it for it aint so bad, waiting for the updates.

For me, the ability to compare several similar shots zoomed in and side-by-side in full screen mode is the most appealing feature of Aperture. That, along with additional editing tools and speedier handling of RAW files, would have made it worth the price for me, but my Mac doesn't meet the min system requirements. Good thing, too, because I've read mixed reviews of Aperture since its debut, and iPhoto 6 does ALL of those things for $79. |

Interesting, but iPhoto lets me do the same thing in full screen mode and jump to Photoshop in one click. |

Funny this thread would come up. Aperture was extremely hyped leading up to it's release. However, I was looking through the iMac site yesterday to check on the cost of the software and see what was being said it about it. Reading through the forums there, even die hard Mac fans are admitting that the software leave very much to be desired. I would recommend anyone thinking of getting it go read some of those comments first. It certainly changed my mind. |

What iMac site? Although I have to admit that the price alone is probably enough to keep me away for now.
I played with the Adobe Lightroom beta for a while, and I sure hope they fix the big bugs soon, because they seem to have gotten all the details right. But it's unusable right now, with killer bugs like refusing to import a file if there's a raw file in the same folder with the same base name.
But it seems neither program is all that good for entering metadata, so I guess I'll stick with iView Pro for now... |

Ive downloaded the free beta of lightroom its rather nice isnt it .. however I also have to say that Im enjoying Aperture too, well I got it for free so I can say that with ease, I think if I had paid $500 for it I might be slightly upset as was my friend who gave it to me.. I think it needs-
A photoshop button to switch direct like lightbox has
A faster engine for adjustments, even with my G5 and 1.5GB RAM it was a bit slow, not so bad really, but slowish.
A better way to store pictures rather than dumping a 20GB file in my photo folder, I would rather it scanned from the drive everytime than saved all the pictures AGAIN on my drive but also its not bad because it gaurentees keeping the originals untouched.
I think Adobes lightbox will be better and I hope they make it cheaper so we can afford the thing, after all we have all just bought CS Photoshop for a healthy sum so they should go easy with us on this one..
I will keep Aperture on my MAC because I liked some of its features

I saw the Aperture demonstrations at PhotoPlus Expo. It looks to be a great RAW converter, but was never intended to take the place of Photoshop. It is great for organizing photos -and has some features in that regard that Adobe's Lightroom does not have.
While I like Lightroom, I've been using Canon's Image Browser to make my intial sorting of my photos. In ImageBrower, I can rate the photos as I go through the slide show and then easily move the best ones into a separate file. In Lightroom, I can run a slideshow, but I have to go to a different area to rate photos - it seems slower to me.
Lightroom's RAW processor seems nice - lots of things to twink (and a new learning curve for me) and you can move the file directly to Photoshop to finish the processing.

Ive used it. Its very lagging on a powerbook. Its not quite as easy as Photoshops raw processor. And hard to do curves. Also no spot editing. I also cant find a way to save or export photos. So I dont even know how to use my pictures after I've edited them. I gave up on it. |
