Does Joey count as a well known photographer?

My current favorites:
Anthony Goicolea
Gregory Crewdson
David Hillard
Charlie White
Joel-Peter Witkin
Unfortunately, none of these photographers (apart form maybe Crewdson) use images that are straight from the camera. Most of them heavily post-process or splice images together. Hillard, while creating relatively unedited images, usually presents his work in triptychs (or more).
In any case, you ought to check these guys out. They're AWESOME, and each has a odd, perhaps disturbing twist. :)
Some images behind the links above may not be considered 'work safe'. You have been warned!

If you title your image with KOUDELKA are most (emphasis on MOST) voters going to look at your entry and say "ah, yes - well done emulating Koudelka"? No, they are going to look at the image and decide for themselves if they like the image or not and vote accordingly.
Actually, you're probably better off picking some obscure photographer than a well known one...
That's JMO. |
This is an interesting point. If you did use a more obscure photographer, do you think it would be acceptable to put a link to his/her work in the title? |
About putting links in titles - links in titles aren't a good idea because often times the title is used as a link itself. So that wouldn't work well.

If I have time, I will dedicate a picture to an unknown photograph...they are so many after all.

Hey, that's McLean Stevenson (LT Colonel Blake) from MASH, isn't it? (sorry Mick, your secret's out) ;-)

Well to me, Edwin S Curtis is one of the best I have ever seen. He not only photographed the American Indian (with GREAT feeling IMO) but also had a studio. I was lucky enough to actually own a Cyanotype from his studio - along with an original sepia of an Indian - at one time and did some research about his works. To me, he is right up there with Adams and Steichen both. My .5 cents worth!

Oh, I hope not, because McLean Stevenson passed away in 1996. :)
Actually, Mr. Stevenson is a much better actor than I am, and I am much much prettier than he ever was.
I sure loved him as Colonel Blake on MASH. He was such a wonderful actor.

I wouldn't mind if someone would throw a little David LaChapelle into the mix. I certainly couldn't pull it off, but I know there are few folks here who could come pretty close. Might be an interesting visual break from the others.

Kivet, just a point of clarification -- the photographer in question here is the talented Annie Leibovitz, most famous for her portraits of celebrities and personalities.
The 'Louise Bourgeois' you mention above is simply the woman sculptor in the first photograph of that online gallery.

Voting's going to be a challenge ... say there is a title "Tribute: Ralph Cramden."
I may not have the first clue who Ralph Cramden is. I'm an educated guy, but maybe I missed Jeopardy last night where, inexplicably, this was the "Final Jeopardy" question. ("How much will you wager?" - Alex)
To vote, I might have to google "Ralph Cramden," learn about his photographic style in a dozen or so links, then decide if the photograph I'm voting on is representative of his (sorry, let's be politically correct, his/her) style.
While fun for me, I am skeptical of the enthusiasm, persistence, and energy of the average voter.
Therefore, I conclude this is a free study.
What do you think?

I have been considering this...It will certainly take a lot of post processing though to get that sureal oversaturated quality. I would probably have better luck if I was going back to film and using some Velvia. |

Or you could use a little Velvia action. :-) Not quite the same, but since they've changed to the rules to advanced editing, it's much more "do-able"

This may have been adressed, but can we just do a tribute to a well known photographer on the site? They are obviously well known within DPC and people would better recognize a tribute to their work i believe. Is that ok?? |
