EF 100-400 f4.5 - 5.6 L IS USM. Anyone have this or used it? What do you think about it?

It's a great lens imo......kinda tough to focus in low light. Here are some shots I took at the Portland Zoo.

I love it. Sharp and quick to focus on the 5D. |

I'm happy with it for the versatility but if you anticipate using it mostly at the long end you might want to consider the EF 400mm F/5.6L instead. It's lighter, sharper and $400 cheaper, but no IS. Something to consider anyway.
If I had a 70-200 F/2.8 (to go with a 1.4x converter) I would not keep the 100-400, but would go with the straight 400mm or maybe even hold out for something better. |

I don't have it but have used it. The only thing that bothers me is the push-pull design of the zoom. I prefer the standard rotating ring to zoom.
There is also a review of it on Photozone.de
Good luck

Whether or not it's true that it's a dust vacuum because of the push-pull, when I've used it I FELT like I was vacuuming dust.
Reminded me of using a bike pump. |

I have the 70-200f4L and was thinking about the Kenko Pro 300DG or equivalent or the other option was something like the 100-400. The 400 prime may be the best way to go. Along with the 1.4 TC. I also have the 75-300 but it's just too soft for me so I never use it. I really need to sell it, afterall it's brand new with only a couple dozen shots on it. Hummmmmm so 1.4 TC plus the 400 and keep the 70-200 f4 or add the 100-400 to the weapons list.
What's the best prices ya'll bought the 400 and the 100-400 for and where? Also the 1.4 TC.
