What is a good affordable lens for my Nikon D50. I want a lens that can do it all. |

Nikkor 18-200 VR is a do-it-all lens.

Keep in mind, though, that the optical quality of lenses with a really wide focal length range is inferior to lenses with a smaller zoom range, which are themselves inferior to prime lenses.
I have a Tamron 28-200 lens, it's very convenient when I want to travel with just one camera and one lens, but the results are noticeably soft (particularly at the 200mm end) when compared to other lenses with a zoom range that isn't as wide.
