Hello all,
i have a question,
i can't seem to take the top of the building because of the sunlight.
can you tell me if it's the white balance fault or do i need a filter like polirazier or should i slow down the shutter speed..i use canon rebel xt
I have attached some samples
thanks so much

I believe that your issue is in regards to the amount of light that is available and the metering your camera is doing to properly expose everything that is right in front of you.
You might want to try a smaller aperture setting and a longer exposure time, perhaps with a flash to fill in the up close part of your image. |

If this is a shot you are to try again, I would alter the time of day you take this photo (if possible) to where the sun isn't so harsh on that side of the building. If this was in the afternoon for example, try in the morning where the sun might be on the other side of the building and thus this side would be shaded and less contrasty to the darker street scene below. Or vice versa: if it was morning, try teh afternoon instead. Good luck. |

Unfortunately the scene just has to much range between the lightest areas and the darkest areas. If you expose for one you will inevitably over or under expose the other.
Telehubbie is right, shooting at a different time is probably your only option.
with that said, you could experiment with a graduated ND filter (darker at the top) but with the different heights of the buildings (and shadows)that would be tough. |

Looks like there is just to much range for the sensor to record. You need to reduce the difference between the sky and the shadows. Time of day may help. Polarizer may help. Best bet here is a Graduated Neutral Density filter to cut down on the light of the building. Another option is two shots. One expsoed for the building and one for the subject. Then combine them in PS. |
