I like it better in B/W, you can almost count all the tones, great conversion.

I'm very excited about printing a 50x50 ( or at least a 40x40) on this one. Thanks for the comments.

how do you get such depth in the b&ws?

I just work on it until I like it. Then I save it.

man I do really like the color version, but the b/w is more effective, just because the shot is so much about texture and pattern to me. awesome. I need to get shots like this...maybe when I don't have to go to class and work al the time. (just a few more years woo)

Hmmmm.... there is such a major difference from the color to b&w.

The color is a nice image, but the b&w just... pops! It just grabs your attention immediately. Okay, at least mine. ;)

But then, I'm a sucker for b&w ever since I received as a thank you gift, an image from Clyde Butcher back in 1995. And of my beloved Everglades at that. :)

With that said, you are right in saying that there are differences in how it looks here and over at FM. I find that intriguing because I don't think it's just the size difference. For me, it is the background surrounding. Someone said earlier a black matte with silver frame. I'm not sure about the frame, I think a dark gray matting, similar to bg at FM, would do it justice.

Anyway... those are just my thoughts.. it is a beautiful image. You did good! ;)

Brent, great shop, Aspen Grove (is this one above Sundance or just a grove?)make great subjects. The B&W is definately the way to go on this one. Did I see you use medium format too. Where do you do most of your work?

Anywhere the wind takes me. My favorite place has been The redwoods, with yosemite and glacier coming in as a close second.

The aspens are from Aspen, CO.

Beautiful shot Brent. When I saw the small version here at DPC I thought it was pretty good, but I was blown away by the detail of the larger one at FM. I Could stare at that picture for hours. I agree that the B/W works better than the color.

Do you achieve better quality with your 6x7 than with your Mark II?

Post the uncropped version here and it is an instant favorite of mine and my new wallpaper of the moment...

Edit to add: Uggh it's too big for my desktop...

Yes. I've never tried it, but I don't think the 1d Mark II will print a very good 40x50. I also don't want to spend the money to see! ;o)

Now the 1Ds Mark II might be another story, I wish I had access to one for a test. Either way, my 6x7 system is on the way out. I'll be upgrading to at least a 4x5 (hopefully an 8x10) as soon as I get the funds.

SO if anybody wants a great Pentax 67 system with outstanding lenses let me know. :D
