I get my share of SPAM e-mail, I was wondering if this was at least in part due to my e-mail address being displayed as part of my profile.

Is there a way to make this generic i.e. 'contact' to avoid the addressed being 'grabbed'

Sensibly I also have stupidly placed my e-mail address on my own site but will be removing it....

Any thoughts...

I've made an attempt at keeping my e-mail address off of any site for just this reason. It's against DPC's terms of use to get addresses from here, and there have been times that D&L went after people who we know sent spam to users here. But it is possible for someone to harvest addresses anywhere that an address appears openly.

You can hide your email address on the "My Preferences" page.

Go to the Preferences page, uncheck "Display Email Address" and click "Save."

JavaScript code is used to obfuscate the email addresses on the Preferences Page and help evade collection by spambots. So far, the only case I'm aware of where users were spammed at the email addresses on their profiles was done manually.

I like fried spam sandwiches.....

As for email spam, my ISP's filters do a pretty good job.
