I want a DSLR badly. I'd rather get a 20d over pretty much anything right now but I don't have the money for one. A D50 is pretty much in my budget though, but I've never owned a Nikon. Plus I'm not sure if I want to settle for 6.3mp over the 8mp D20. Will I regret getting the D50? Or will it suffice for the next couple years or so? When I get an DSLR I'm going to keep it for a few years so I have to keep that in mind. Thanks.

buy the xt and save your money for some good glass

Both are excellent cams, maybe you should be looking at the glass? When you get your first dSLR you are buying into a manufacturer, once you have a body and get some lenses you may well find it becomes expensive to swop cams.

TLL said what I was going to say. Without this turning into a Nikon or Canon war. IMO once you get up that high in MP it doesn't make that much of a difference. The best thing for you to do is go to a camera store and hold them all buy the one that fits best.

Yeah, I figured as much on the mp subject. I've held the XT, 20d and D50. I disliked the XT the most unfortunately. The 20d felt awesome.

Yes, but you aren't taking pictures of what the camera feels like.... :)

You need to get the best cam for the $. I'd save longer - get a 20D when the prices comes down in February after the photo shows and the 50D is announced officially.

Is the 50d officially coming out in Feb.? That's what I've been waiting for to see if the 20d drops in price.

It's not official, but with Canon's business cycles and the way things have been "prereleased" already, yes, the 20D looks to be dropping soon and then you can get one and not worry about the D50.

buy into glass, not bodies. if you shoot wide, nikon. tele, canon. both have good options at both ends, however each is stronger in certain aspects.

If it's all about camera for the $, then clearly you should just save up and get a Nikon d200.

I would say if you didn't like the way the XT felt and you like the way the 20D felt then do what mavrik said and save for that 20D. If I wouldn't have gotten the deal I got on my XT I would have waited a month or two and bought a 20D.

Yes camera for the $, but in the end it's all going to come down to price and the D200 is out of my price range.

Not to rain on your parade but, unless you plan on shooting with the kit lens you should consider cost of lenses, flash, accessories...etc and how much of a budget you have for that before you even consider buying the camera body

Yes, I started a new thread about lenses. I really don't know too much about them.

I love my kit lens. I use it most of the time. But lenses will come. Just do like me wait until someone at DPC post that they are selling then buy from them. I got the other 3 lenses I have from DPCers.
