I too am making the plunge into the world of DSLR with Rebel XT. My question is where is the best places on line to purchase camera equiptment. I am looking at getting the XT with the to lens kit and practicing with them before upgrading to more expensive lens. I would like to hear both good and bad since ordering online is my only real option.
Thankyou for the help,
Ryan

If you're definately set on the Rebel XT and there's no chance you'll want to return it, I recommend ZipZoomFly. They're super fast (free 2nd day air shipping) and usually a little cheaper for most things (the Rebel XT with kit lens is $5 cheaper than B&H, plus B&H will charge for shipping). You do have to be sure of what you want though, because they only accept returns on cameras if the product is defective. I got my SP-310, many memory cards (excellent prices on those) and almost all the parts for my computer through them and couldn't be happier.

most definitely B&H. Also if you are an NAPP member B&H gives you free shipping.

i've dealt with zipzoomfly, i was quite happy. i always buy from buydig.com though. their prices are always competitive. i dont buy from b&h because i live in ny and i'd have to pay for sales tax.

I bought mine from BuyDig. $850 shipped, got here faster than the 1 gig memory card I ordered the day before that shipped with UPS instead of FedEx.

Adorama usually has the cheaper price then BH photo but try putting the item in the shopping cart and check the shipping price. Sometimes the item is cheaper but the shipping isn't.

I've purchased many items without any problems from the following.
Bhphotovideo.com
Beachcamera.com
digitalfotoclub.com
sigma4less.com
Avoid these scam artists: They do not sell at advertised prices unless you buy extremely overpriced accessories.
Express camera
Broadway photo
A&M Photo
Digital Liquidators

I have had a very bad experience with beachcamera.com. They don't belong on anyone's list of reputable online camera sellers.
One that I would add is TriState Camera & Video. They have pretty low prices, but be prepared for the pitch to sell you overpriced accessories.

See if there might be a way to pick up the Kiss N Kit from Japan. It includes the 18-55 in a USM model as well as a 55-200 lens.
I am personally a fan of the 18-55 cos it's cheap, and that 55-200 can be sold to make a quick buck and can be like a form of rebate.
Not a terrible lens in the end either.
I've seen them here for 27000NT. I think that's around 800 dollars US. |

If you want my opinion. Buying on line will save you a few bucks. But buying in a local camera shop will support your community, give you a place to ask questions, and may possibly lead to contacts and other learning . A lower online price is not always worth it. My opinion -Kevin |

I would love to buy local. But only options are WalMart and Officemax, locally. The nearest camera shop is three hours away on winter roads and the UP winter is too unpredictable to try and plan a trip to a bigger city like Green Bay or Duluth. So I am stuck buying online.
