A question on language.
A big ad (like the ones that you see on the roads) is considered to be a sign or I could run into DNMC shooting? ;-)
Thanks,
S.

I would consider this a sign. |

If it has a structure to support it specifically as a sign like a signpost or a big frame for a billboard (signs that are very large), then it is a sign.
Be careful that there are many ads that are placed on the sides of buildings or painted on. These are ads and because they do not have their own supporting structure, they aren't really signs in some people's view.
Otherwise, shoot away |

So the name of a street is not a sign if it is on the wall, is it? |

Could be a "sign of the future". ;^)
I took a peak in the dictionary to see if something I had in mind would work for this challenge and the list of definitions for "sign" is pretty lengthy. Example "sign: to sign your name in a signature", or "sign: as in sign language for the deaf", etc... many, MANY ways to go with this one. ;^)

A sign is a sign nontheless, but just because there is a competition for roads, and a competition for signs at the same time, the two are separate. In other words, this doesn't mean, to me, that it has to be a "road sign".
A road sign would certainly be within theme, just as a sign from God would be. A sign of the times, a sign of the future, a sign of the past, a sign from above, etc. These are all good examples of how far you can take your entry, in my opinion.
Same with road. It doesn't have to be a road in the literal sense either.
The goal for me, and I entered Road, is just make it as appealing as you can to the voters in whatever way you choose to go with it. :) I think mine is, but you never know, as usual. And that is the fun of it to me! So you can step as far out of the box as you want to on this, in my opinion, but keeping in mind that universal appeal on a grand scale is what to strive for while your stepping. That is how I look at every challenge. I don't think I will get more votes if I take a picture of a moon and say "road to the first step outside of our planet". It really wouldn't be something that would make me say "WOW, YEAH!" and give a 10 to. To me that would be one hell of a stretch for an entry, but will it have appeal beyond my own? Could very well be.
So again, just do what you love, what appeals to you and what you think will appeal to others, and that is the most important aspect for any challenge in my opinion. Let the chips fall, and move on.
