Check out this shot, Sunday's Astronomy Picture of the Day. This is M104, the so-called "Sombrero Galaxy," an outstanding image from the Hubble Heritage collection, but take a look at the background. There are 100's of background galaxies visible, parts of the greater Virgo Cluster. Just an amazing shot.

Very cool, thanks for sharing. Did you see that double galaxy in the bottom about 1/3 from left? Pretty cool to see all the different galaxies in the background too.

Though they could certainly stand to run it through Neat Image ;-) ;-) ;-)

That's always been one of my favorite galaxies--the dust lanes in it are incredible. BTW, here's the link to the top-level APOD page that links to the image.
