I joined here a couple years ago now, and loved coming here. I don't participate in many challenges, but I look at them all and learn so much from all the people here.I pick up things for shooting pictures and editing, there is so much to learn here. I have found though over the last few months people getting argumentitive and rude, and I am truly sick and tired of it.It seems as thought the purpose of the site has changed, and not due to the power to be, but from some people that feel only their opions matter. I will not be participating much here any more and will not renew when it is time. This is a great site and it is very sad that it has come to this point. I am tired of attitudes, good luck to the rest of you and I hope this once again become the site it was befor.

This has just being put on another thread and I want to get peoples veiws on it.
I would also like to say to pioneer that I hope he will think again about not becoming a member. It is when a site looses the people like pioneer that the bad few take over. We are all happy that people like you use this site and I am sure now we will pull together as a community to stop any abuse of the site.
I think the easy way to put it is
Please dont give up on the site. It will get back to the old ways soon im sure:)
edit* other thread:)

Could you post a link to the original thread so we can get some context?
Normally it's not allowed to quote other threads in new threads... |

but is is sad when good, popular, contributing member leaves ... definetly.

I don't know.
I think the main problem is that people don't like to tell n00B's that there are ropes, much less show them where they are and what to do with them.
Half the time someone asks a legitimate newbie question, they get shot down with "search the forums, moron" type attitudes.
People do seem to get less helpful as time goes on....
Could you pos the original thread please??

Ray,
Wavelength's post was at 3:46, and polkop edited his post at 3:51. I think that edit was to add the link, in response to wavelength's request.

yep, wasn't there before.
I missed that too. But I went though and found that it was a thread I posted to.
Weird thing is, I can't understand why he got so upset really. The responses seemed pretty civil to me, maybe I need to re-read for context.

My apologies to Wavelenght, Kudos to Polkop, and my appreciation to Terry for showing me the error of my ways. I truly need to be more vigilant, and will strive to do that in future.

I can explain that.... there were comments made that were a direct attack on Pioneer, which were subsequently removed.

On the other hand, the user who made the comments *did* edit his post. Maybe we should give him a little credit for realizing he said something he shouldn't and retracting that. I'm sure every one of us has at times said something we wished we could take back out of anger or frustration.
I'm not apologizing for the person who posted the comments (perhaps he should do that on his own?) but I'd hope that we, and Pioneer especially, could perhaps give that person the benefit of the doubt for the time being.
TO PIONEER: Please understand that Site Council shared your concern about the negativity in the forums lately. For whatever reason, it seems to run in cycles, and was at a high earlier this week and last week. Nonetheless, we have a responsibility to keep the forums fun and civil, and I agree we've fallen short on that responsibility recently.
This announcement should give you some insight into our awareness of the problem, and into how we intend to deal with it going forward. We welcome feedback from you and anyone else in our effectiveness in dealing with the problem, and on anything else for that matter.
~Terry

Then it seems the person that made the comment should be urged to apologize directly to Pioneer. It's really unfortunate when that occurs.
I'll send Pioneer a PM asking that he forgive the site for one persons rudeness. It really is too bad.

If you ask me some people are just a little thin skinned. This is a web log, not a family dinner.

No, I think you took that wrong. Not that a family dinner is supposed to be civil, but that this is a web log and we for the most part don't know each other on an intimate basis and so should not take such comments to heart.

In other words it's not like sitting at the dinner table and having your uncle Vito tell you you're a long haired punk and to get a haircut. So stop throwing meatballs back across the dinner table and stop taking everything so personally.

| Maybe it's just me, but I would not be happy if someone responded to my suggestion with "Can't you just suggest that more people use the search in the forums to find past threads?". Even if the intent was merely to point out an option, it seems to be saying the original suggestion should not have been made. I didn't read all the comebacks before they were edited out, so I don't know why pioneer is so upset, but perhaps if he had stated his thoughts in a different way there would not have been a problem. |
