I miss Hamm's, almost as much as I miss the animated neon sign atop the brewery, and the bear ...

Awww, GeneralE, does that make you a redneck? Does that make me a redneckette?

I miss that sign too.

Well, lets see....I am from Tennessee. I grew up on a farm and raised hogs. We had 16 coon hunting dogs and I would go coon hunting with my father. I used to squirrel hunt, frog gig and cow tip. I have no formal education and I did live in a trailor during my first marriage. It was a requirement to take a hunters safety course when I was in high school. I have taken a bath in the creek. During High School, my friends and I would head to the creek to go swimming and drink beer. I drove a pick up truck to school with cattle racks on the back. I have a VERY STRONG southern accent. I say "ain't" and alot of other words that don't really exist. I love to go fishing and shoot guns. I had rather go fishing than shopping any day. Does that make me a redneck? I am as country and you can be. I do not see being "redneck" as an insult at all. It wouldn't bother me or anyone else I know if you called them a redneck. Southerners do not see it as insulting.

??? Calling some one a Redneck is now not PC!? What kinda Hillbilly Redneck got offended by that? Its kinda funny how something that was just a description get turned into something else once someones offended. Heck they called the Irish getting off the boat to America as Micks aka Mc in the last name. The Italians WOPs because they didn't have emmigration papers hence 'With Out Papers'. Whats funny is most the time someone get offended they are in no way associated with it, they are just sporting the self-rightous suit. To those I say get a fricking life! On that note its no longer a Redneck its a Goat-Roper:)

I'm a redneck and very proud of it, even though I live in a "new" house with two garage door openers and vinyl siding.

The only time I'm going to get upset about the word "redneck" is when someone of some "alternative" preference (whatever that might be) calls me a redneck in an obviously derisive fashion.

Until then, yep, I'm a redneck... :)

PS --> mandyturner, karmat (my wife) says "ain't" too :)

You might be a Redneck if you don't consider it a truck till it has 33" tires, and loud exhaust on it.

That's because I can't make it up my driveway without the tires, and the neighbors won't know I'm home if I have a muffler :)

Actually, my hair's been too long to allow me to get a red neck for about 35 years I remember the term seeming to arise as one for the "anti-hippie" life-style.

The decision to edit the thread in question had nothing to do with "PC." In that thread's subject line, the term "redneck" was clearly used in a derogatory, insulting manner. It is that context of usage which prompted the edit.

It's worth noting that removing the use of the redneck stereotype from that thread changed the discussion and the point of the main post not at all.

So if he had said Dickweed or jerk how would that have changed it? Both of those are Decriptors. Im just trying to understand the discription that is over the line.

If he had said dickweed, it probably would have been edited, as that's a word we probably don't want appearing on the front page of the site (most recent threads list). As for "jerk," that probably would have been allowed to stay.

The difference is that the term Redneck was used as a pejorative and is stereotypical in nature. Those two factors taken together were the basis for the edit.

For the proof of this argument, you need look no further than this very thread. If our intent was to pull every post where the redneck stereotype was referenced, there would be quite a few posts removed in this thread already.
