		First, I admit I did not read the entire thread so don't hate my answer for that.  
 
 Just wanted to add that I have had the same situation once before and it wasn't a needed shot and I knew it.  When confronted and knew it wasn't the shot I needed I explained that I wasn't after the shot of the complainer and engaged him in conversation about what I was doing. (contest for another site).  I then told him that his photo was not what I had wanted and offered to delete it by showing him what pic I had and the one before it and after it.  (It really wasn't the one I needed and I wasn't in the mood to argue)  I deleted it right in front of him and he left.  I do have to admit that after the explanation he seemed to be disappointed that I deleted the photo.  (go figure) 
 
 My suggestion is, talk to them and tell them how imortant they are to your art an I think you can get 99% of the subjects.  There is no doubt in my mind that I could have gotten the photo if I really needed it
