As someone one whose score has jumped .3 points since the challenge began, I would love to see a "You are currently in _____ place out of ____." Update with every hour. What you think?

Great idea!
Yeah, what's up with this challenge? Seems like the voters are experiencing so much remorse after they read all the posts regarding the definition of a "square" that they are going back and upgrading all the votes originally put in. My score has also climbed by 0.3, after 120 votes!!!! Haven't seen that much swing before...

Square must be a square, all 4 sides equal, otherwise I vote low numbers! |

Good for you for sticking up for yourself. All I ask is that you explain to me that you didn't see a square so I can point it out to you (I've had to do that once already)

You have entered no challenges, and the average score you have given is less than 4. I wonder what your excuse (er, pardon me, "reason") for low scoring was in earlier challenges.

I dont think this would be a good idea for this reason:
it is 10 minutes till the challenge ends. Lets say someone is 4th place. Almost there!
They could very easily go to their voting page, look for photos that could be winning and vote them down, until their personal position became 3rd, 2nd, or 1st.
If it didnt change their ranking, they could try a different photo, and use trial and error until they found a way to move up a rank.
I'm not saying everyone would do this but it could happen. Lower down in the rankings it would be more significant placing changes.
This, I guess, would be more of a hazard in the member challenge, because there are less votes, so each vote is "worth more"

ben, if that is the problem the obvious solution would be to not allow people to see others' rankings in the current challenge, which i doubt would be allowed anyway. also with the obvious wide array of tastes on this site, i find it hard to believe that someone could pick the top five out of a pile, especially in a members challenge. i think this would be a good idea and wouldn't spoil the fun, we already know if our photos are doing well or not, it would add to the fun in my opinion

The person doesnt need to be able to see the other ranks, it could be done through trial and error. I think having this feature would make the top photos more vunrable to 'troll' votes, to try and lower their averages, and trolls can see if they are successful.
They could easily mould their voting pattern around what gives them the highest rank.

hehe, yeah, seeing the ranking sorta spoils the fun, but i did beat you on the 0.3 spread :P i started in the 4's and i'm now up to 5.7 (though the route was more like 4.8->5.6->5.3->5.7, this has been quite a rocky voting session) i definatly cant wait to see what my score is in the end hehe
