Well folks, the new year is off to a pretty good start Critique Club wise.
So far there have been almost 200 crits given.
There have been 25 active CC members this year so far, and a few new sign ups.
Thanks to all for your participation in the CC, much appreciated.

Critique Club Stats Page update
A lot of you suggested some stats for CC members, and I wanted To give you an update on that. Know that while Drew and Langdon are very busy, there was a page model shown to Site Council for review, and I think it's stunning. It it a page that would be visible on the 'select a photo' page, and it would show your personal stats such as how many critiques you've given that month and total, how long you've been a member etc, and would also show general stats such as how many critiques have been requested, how many have been given etc. It would also show a random CC critique as an example of some of the hard work the CC members put forth.
There hasn't been an estimated time of arrival on this yet, and really no solid word that it WILL be implimented, but I have high hopes. If it does go through, I know you'll love it.

Making photographer's comments required for a Critique
There has been discussion on making it a requirement to require photographer's comments in order to receive a CC. This has also been discussed by the Site Council and Admins, but I also do not know the status of coding or implimenting such an action. I know that's not much help, but at least you know your suggestions are not being ignored. Delayed, maybe, but not ignored.

What to do if you draw a photo to critique that has no Photographer Comments
In the mean time, if you draw a photo which contains no photographer's details, please try to critique it the best you can, and maybe add a note saying something like 'Do to the fact that you have offered no photographer's comments, I can only base my critique on personal opinion only, since I don't know what your intentions for this photograph were. For a more detialed comment in the future, please include photographers comments when asking for an in depth critique.' Then offer your best personal opinions on the iamge and move on.
If you cannot offer anything at all on the image, please contact Myself ManicorKonador and we will reassign a new one to you.

Reminder to ALL who are giving Critique Club Critiques
For those giving CC Critiques, we would also like to ask that while we do not expect you to write novels, please be as detailed as possible on all the information you offer. Try to note all aspects about the photo. Some things to mention are focus, lighting, visual appeal, composition, relevance to the challenge topic, background elements, distracting elements etc. Again, be as detailed as possible and make sure to incorporate the photographer's details (if available) into the critique. If they were going for a dark moody look, and it isn't coming across as such, then suggest something that would help the photographer achieve that look. Again, we don't expect you to write novels, but a 'Detailed Critique' should include more than one or 2 lines stating that you like the image and think that it fits the challenge.

Interested in joining?
For anyone who may be interested in joining the Critique Club, you may find information on what the Critique Club does HERE We only ask that you have been a member for at least a month or so, and have offered a number of helpful critiques during challenges or on portfolio images. Please contact Myself ManicorKonador To join, or if you have further questions.

Hey HBunch! I just wanted to again, and publicly, thank you for the invite to join the Critique Club. I have critiqued several photos now and look forward to doing many more in the future. I am more than happy to help in this regard and ease the load. :)

For anyone who has not thought about this kind of DPC participation in the CC, know that it is enjoyable, and is a great help to those that offer up their photos for indepth critique.

Great news Heather! Tomorrow is my last day of plant start-up so hopefully this weekend I can get back to my regular routine with critiques (I apologize for the lack of activity the past few weeks)

Looking forward to the changes.

I am enjoying and learning from the experience of critiquing ... which is great ... will continue to work towards the one a day .. Also have a template for critiques if other members wish it they can contact myself or Kiwipix by PM with their emails and we can send.

Cheers

I'd just like to say I'm having a great time since I joined CC a week ago.

This is from Brett (kiwipix)

I do use a template but not numbers. If it's of any interest/use to anyone, here it is ...
[ B][ I]::: Critique Club :::[/b][/i]

[ B]First Impression - the most important one:[/b]

[ B]Composition:[/b]

[ B]Subject:[/b]

[ B]Technical (Colour, focus, and light):[/b]

[ B]To grow its vote?:[/b]

[ B]Summary:[/b]

I just find it very easy to do critiques when I have a framework to work with. Copy at will (just take the space out of "[ B]" etc, I had to put it in to show the codes

Extremely easy to code a requirement of photographer comment. Near impossible to code an assurance of relevance. So it is easy to require such an entry...but they could simply type "This is my photo." It is near impossible (feasibility wise) to implement code to necessitate a type of content, without creating additional entry fields.

I still think that it is a fair suggestion and a good idea to require some sort of entry with direction as to what it should include.

Its a good point Jason and one that has always stalled the implementation in the past it appears. I think it's now a moot point. Everyone is coming to understand how necessary the comments are. Now that the photogs will be reminded they're needed when ticking the box, everyone is on the same songsheet and it'll be self-regulating.

The critiquer is the first to see the comment and if its garbage, they can comment accordingly. If someone is so contemptuus of the process to put %^$#^(*(^&^# as a comment then I guess the message to the critiquer is pretty clear :)

This is much appreciated! I would love to see such posts more often.

All too often when I make a suggestion (or see someone else's), I wonder whether I am wasting my "ink", or talking to a brick wall - I have NO idea if anybody from SC has at least bothered to read and think about it, let alone passed it on for consideration.

Thank you very much, hbunch, for this post. It is so nice to be informed about what is going on, it makes us mere mortals feel more like part of the family.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm excited too about the stats, I just really really hope it goes through.
Thanks also for all the PM's and Emails I received from those of you interested in joining the CC. Wow. This will be the year of the CC, I can feel it.
There have now been 226 CC's given this year. Great work all!

HBunch, would (or could) the stats be extended to include a 'top critic' list for all time/year/month?

Also, of interest to those who have set targets for the year/month, would it be possible to have a user-defined progress bar added? Like the new comment bar when voting, except it would read something like 'You are __% of the way to your target goal for the month/year'.

Those are very good suggestions. I'm particularly fond of the 'top critic' stat, since that's me. hehe (I don't really want my name up there for EVERYONE to see though)
I will add your suggestion of the progress meter to the Site Council discussion in the morning, cause if I do it now, it will fall off the main page before SC wake up.
Thank you very much for the suggestion, I think that would be a fun addition.

David, I have posted your suggestion for SC/Admin review. Thanks again.

No problem.

Although I do disagree with you not wanting the top stats visible. How much of an encouragement to do just one more would you have when you can see another getting close? :D
