Hey all -
I used to live in Arlington VA, so DC isn't new to me. However, I haven't ever really gone and taken a buttload of photos there before, especially with this fancy schmancy new rebel setup on tripod.
Any advice on what to steer clear of? Have any of you had problems shooting at the monuments or of the govt buildings?
I doubt I'll have many problems, but I had a dream last nite that someone confiscated my memory card and I whigged and I might've been thrown in Gitmo...not sure.
Also! Oh! Shit I remembered I wanted to hunt down the location of this amazing sculpture I never did get to see in DC. It's of the giant man emerging from the earth - his hands and his head are coming out of the ground. It's a massive sculpture, and I kick myself for never having hunted it down. Anyone know the name/location of this? (My google-ninja skillz are really lame today!)
Thanks in advance :)
Katy

I think its called "The Awakening".

I can't vouch for the location. I live in the DC area, but haven't been there either.
I haven't had any problems shooting the monuments, in fact there are guided "photo safaris" to various points on the Mall and DC area. You might get hassled if you try to shoot in the Metro stations (though IIRC there is a photo safari for the Metro as well). |

We didn't seem to have any trouble when we had a DPC get together there this past summer.
That sculpture sounds interesting. I'm not sure which one you're talking about but we have something similar
HERE locally. (Probably not what ya had in mind, though.) |

It located at Haines Point near the point. Not real sure how to get there since I haven't been down there in awhile myself but I think there are signs just after you go over the 14th street bridge on I395 N. |

I am visiting DC right now and I was told last night by guards at Washington Monument that tripods are not allowed on any federal property in DC. Have fun!
