Jesus these threads are anal at times :-P

If I see a pencil in your photo either as a lone, rogue pencil or hanging out with his pencil buddies I will consider challenge met :-)

does the pencil have to have an eraser?

(just being anal, no response needed.)

hokie: that was a priceless post. I actually got water up my nose reading it. Perhaps I should explain I was drinking water at the time of the actual reading. There wasn't some sort of freakish tidal wave or massive brain leakage involved. It hurts though dammit. I blame you! *clenches fists* Damn your wittiness!

While shooting yesterday, I placed the pencil near the llama. Llama ate the pencil. Now if I submit a photo of the llama taken after the pencil was eaten, the photo SUBJECT does PHYSICALLY (though perhaps not digitally) contain a pencil.

Can a title save it?

:o)

I like this new challenge, especially because it will be very easy to tell whether someone has met the criteria of it. If there's a pencil in it, it meets the challenge. No pencil; it didn't meet the requirement. (I'm sure someone will throw a wrench in there somewhere, but this is at least pretty straightforward.)

While voting on "Something New" I felt that a LOT of the images were quite a stretch on the subject, and I docked a number of scores as a result.

How does everyone else deal with voting on photos that seem to stretch the interpretation of the challenge topic? What about photos that wouldn't come close to meeting the challenge without a clever title? As a newcomer to the site I have already found myself struggling with this as I vote.

I bet somebody will manage to throw in a baby or a flower somewhere ... bets anybody?

$20 (AU!! not US) says that someone puts a pencil up their kid's nose.

I don't allow my baby to play because everytime it falls I have to sharpen it with a pencilsharpener. Besides the awfull crying, I'm afraid there won't be any baby left after a while :)

That's hilarious!

But.. .will someone please explain to me (sorry that I'm off subject) how to get an image into the thread like that?

Karen,

You can embed an image by wrapping the URL to a photo inside of a pair of brackets.

For instance, this line

produces this:

Maybe it's just me... but doesn't pencil baby look a little jondis??(y'all should know what I mean with that if it isn't spelt right.)
And you better sand his little head or he could get a splinter.
Cute picture!!

Thanks, Drew! I think I'll defer to your answer to this question since you're an administrator. I never even considered being restricted to one pencil or even having to have it as THE main subject until this thread. I just hope that the rest of the voters (those who don't read the forums) aren't thinking that.

I must admit this thread has taken on some bizarre twists since the original subject I posted :)

I'm actually not very good with clever titles. Mine tend to be very straightforward and boring ;o) When I'm scoring pics, however, I don't really look at the title all that much. If it doesn't make sense then I might read the title just to see if I'm the stupid one. If the only link to the challenge IS the title then I might drop it a point. All of our minds work differently so I try to be lenient in different interpretations.
Don't you like how threads are like conversation in that they often end up somewhere far away from the starting point? :o)
