I'm looking to buy a macro lens for my Canon EOS 20D. I really don't have any idea of what to get. Any suggestions? |

If you don't have any idea of what your after replies may be a little off subject!
I have the canon 100mm f/2.8 and at that FL you'd be hard pushed to beat it! (the sigma 105mm f/2.8 is top notch as well).

I have the EF-S 60mm f/2.8 and love it. With the crop factor it is a 96mm lense. Actual 1:1 focus. Tack sharp. Very nice lense to work with.
I suggest you go to the equipment tab, select lenses and then view the pics of the various macro lenses Canon has that people here have entered shots taken with them. That might help your decision.
100 mm f/2.8 shots
60 mm f/2.8 shots
There are a few others on the list that are specified as macro...

What did you pay for that lens, the Canon 100mm f/2.8? |

I think I paid £300 for mine (UK bods have it hard).

I have the Sigma 105mm f/2.8 Macro EX DG. Haven't played around too much with it but it looks to be wonderfully sharp and useful as a portrait lens as well. Costs a lot less than the top quality Canon lenses. |

the most common options are the 2 canon 100mm macros the USM and the non-USM (used only). The sigma 105mm has a great reputation (so do the 50mm and 150mm). The 60mm EF-S is an option but is not upgradable outside of a 1.6x camera. The Tamron 90mm is another great choice. |

I have a very gently used Sigma 105 f2.8 Macro in EF mount that I'm selling. PM me if you are interested.

Photozone.de and Luminous Landscape (I think) tested a Canon 100mm and a Tamron 90mm macros and both conclude that the Tamron maybe a tad sharper.
Popular Photography recently tested a new Tokina 100mm ATX Pro D macro and state they wonder who'd pay more for a Nikon or a Canon. And they are cheaper.
When I get a macro lens, I think I'm gonna get the Tokina.
Good luck.
