Canon EF 17-40mm f/4.0L USM

I have a Sony dsc-h1 and minimal shutter speed is 30 sec which is almost enough for most of the pics I'm taking. Anyway, I was interested in finding a camera with slower shutter speed and was not able to find any(even SLR) with more than 30 sec exposure. Then I recently ran across a photo on DPC that was taken with a Nikon D70 and it says that the exposure time was 30 MINUTES! So I checked D70's characteristics and min s.speed is 30 secs. What's the catch? Anyone has an explanation?

It was a landscape shot and they used long exposure to capture the stars moving, so it was definitely in minutes...

If you set the camera to bulb mode the shutter stays open as long as the button is pressed down....you will need a shutter release of some sort, like a remote or cable.

I think I don't have that setting on my "poor" H1...:-)

check your manual, it should be in the manual settings (you manualy select the shutter speed as stare at the sun suggests use a cable release)

The R1 also has a "bulb" exposure mode, enabling exposures of up to 3 minutes.
