How did you get invited to this site?

Brian Sherrill, Director, Blish Development (quoted from his emails) browsed my webpage and contacted me via email about 2 months ago. He asked if I would be interested in being a charter member, no fees for first year and "help set the bar" for the site. I agreed to give it a go.

I wish them luck. Hope its the new ebay! lol

Cindy - what is their cut and who sets the pricing? Looking to see how this will compare to Alamy.

Also, what about rights?

Sorry for all the questions. I'm sure others will wonder also.

Photographer sets price. List your shot at $0.50 or $10,000. Its all up to you. They remit 50% of sales price. So find your price, double it, list it.

License is determined by you also. As its new, I don't have all of the details, only what is in the contract I printed for my records.

Hey Cindi. This looks like a site that could go somewhere. I owned a female graphic site called Pixelitas.com for 4 years and one of original owners tried to get something like this going. It fell through after a programmer basically ripped her off and she changed her mind. When I turned the group over to 2 other girls they did start a small scale place which they sell the members stuff.

I emailed Blish asking for information on selling then I found the link saying it was by invitation only. :)

Your work looks great there and good luck on your sales. It will be fun to watch this site progress.

Getting ahead of history here.

Bren, my understanding was that the "by invitation only" will be removed now that the site is launched. I'll ask Brian when I speak to him next. Thanks for the good wishes, I too hope they do very well.

ROFL @ Bush Lynched!!!

Oh, ok thanks. When I did use the form on the site to email them I kept getting back a email reply saying it didn't go thru.

Cindi, thanks for sharing this I was looking for a place that was a one stop shop for multi-media design work. I produce video and music and now just starting to do photog. Although there are a lot of sites out there that sell stock flash, audio, video etc. none of them offer all in one place as Blish appears to be doing...nice. Hope you do well and can you keep us updated if they remove the by invitation only?

Just got an answer from my contact at Blish. I asked him about the "by invitation only" and the "contact us" issue that Bren is having. Here is his response:

Ahh yes, for some reason our contact email account didn’t get set up – right now the site is by invitation only, but we are going to be opening it up to the world in a month or so. Have anyone interested email me directly at info@blish.com. Feel free to post that link to the forum

Cindi I wanted to let you know I heard back from Brian and was invited to join. I am excited about this site. I really like the idea you can set your own prices here. It's also exciting getting in on the ground floor of something like this. Thanks again for telling us about this.

I see one major problem with the site that you gals might want to insist on being improved...

The "software" (usually a thing called ImageMagick or GD) that is resizing your photos to thumbnails needs to be upgraded. It appears they are using GD version 1 instead of version 2. Version 2 and ImageMagick do a MUCH better job of resizing to thumbnails. All of the photos I saw absolutely look terrible in thumbnail form, and I haven't yet found a way to see a larger version. For the quality of work that you do, Cindi, it deserves a MUCH better presentation. The SITE looks great, but that software is killing your images.

Just a heads up, not trying to be a know it all. Even if it were my sorry looking photography being presented, I would want it to look as good as possible, especially for a stock site.

Best of luck!

EDIT: I did "find" the slightly larger version, and it IS somewhat better, but I think the software is still hurting it. They may be using something other than the PHP stuff I'm familiar with, but the quality settings need to be cranked up SIGNIFICANTLY.

I agree, that was the first thing I noticed, the thumbs look bad.

Bren, I missed your post earlier. Congrats on getting in. I wish you huge success there.

Thanks also for the info about the thumbnails. I also noticed they didn't look great, but being a web moron, I know nothing about WHY.... I will forward your message to my contact and ask him to check it out.
