yes this is correct, giving the resposiblities and trust mainly helps.
Though i mentioned that i watched porno by 13, but this does not tell how i turned out. My parents always trusted me, i got to do whatever i wished and not a single question asked (i am not advocating this, but this happened with me), this let me be my own police and i tried that i shall never do anything that i can not admit or tell to parents.
So i resulted in a guy, who never smoked, never taken anywine etc. (rem wine is considered bad in india). Some say i turned out to be boring guy, but instead i utilised my freedon in learning and doing creative things, i spent my time with arts, literature , sports, and yepp i turned out okey.
One thing , i never liked being told what to do, and bossed, even from parents (though they almost never did).
i think talking with children helps, keeping watch is important but it should not happen that children find parents too much meddlesome. They should be shown that their action could result very bad.

Wow,
Over fifty children lured and molested by computer "isn't too high" and you "don't plan on having any children" I have to now question where you are coming from. Your next post will probably indicate that pedophilia can be treated and that pedohiles are just misunderstood.
I am sorry but I have seen the devastation that can be done and one is too many. To minimize it would indicate that you may have a problem. I have seen people kill themselves over this. Thank God I didn't tell anyone that they were part of the .05 percent that it was bound to happen to.

Oh good grief, every thread I go into tonight people are arguing off-topic.
The OP asked for young people to step up and give him some insight on letting her have a go at the site.
So, enough with arguing on how to properly raise a child.

Please actually read the thread and see how it evolved. Then you can offer your opinion. Nobody is calling anybody anything. Someone was asking how to protect their child.
Obviously you must not be a parent. When you become one and he or she wants access to something that may cause him or her to be a victim you will understand and will be welcome back |

Pedophilia can be treated and pedophiles are just misunderstood.

I'm not trying to minimalize anything and I really don't know whether it can be treated or not. I know very little about why people do anything along these lines.
There are a lot of devastating things that happen in this world is my point. Granted it sucks more when it happens to children, but instead of suppressing children's rights why not spend more of your time on catching the freaks doing this s**t. There are two ways to stop this problem. I know easier said than done, but not everything is easy.
Start a block watch. Donate to your local police department. Become a vigilante. Maybe not the last one I guess.
P.S. I'm not having children because of these reasons. Not the only reason though. I can't bring someone into this world just to have all their rights stripped away. Example = Photographers rights. A lot of recent threads have shown this. Many other reasons also but I don't have all night.
P.S.S. You made me into a liar. I tried to stay quiet but I love a good argument. No hard feelings?

He was asking how to protect his child from pervs, not who she should meet.
Actually reading the thread would help alleviate this problems |

I don't think I've ever heard of anything happening on this site. I agree some of the younger members should be asked.

Never any hard feelings, I don't know you and only say that you should speak of what you know. I am here to learn photograhy but happen to be an expert on pedophilia and the low life scumbags that cause all of this pain to children. About 25 hours ago my first grand child was born. A girl, and I worry about her from the first minute. The diference between you and me is ignorance. Not stupidity, you just don't know any better. Pedophiles depend upon and live off of people like you. As long as you minimize it or use statistics to make it insignificant, they thrive.
I am not smarter then you, I have just had the oppurtunity to speak to over one thousand pedohiles in the past 25 plus years. I have learned that they are dependant upon people like you minimizing them. The average pedophile has 52 victims before he is caught the first time. YOU DO THE MATH.

No offense taken,
It's just that people that have never seen the damage first hand and have no stake in it tend to minimize it.
Kind like the 42,000+ people killed each year in auto accidents. If you didn't lose anyone in a crash in 2005 then all is okay............. unless you are one of the 100,000+ who lost someone you know, then it's a friggin nightmare.
I hope this clarify's it a bit more. |

thanks for your comments. I do intend to pay close attention to what my daughter does. I try to keep a good relationship with her and I explain the reasons that I restrict her freedoms. We live in a tough city. She know this first hand. She doesn't complain or argue with my rules. She is very mature.

That's good... sounds like if something untoward did happen, she may well have the sense to talk with you about it. Ditto in real life.
I'd think having an arena like this where she can interact with adults on a more-or-less equal footing would be good for her emotional development. And the occasional bit of (DPC, not porn!) nudity won't harm her either, imo.

Well in my opinion and as the mother of two young kids I can honestly say that I don't see a thing wrong with DPC and the site could be a wonderful learning experience if she likes cameras and taking pics.
I think it's very important to give them some space to room and grow and giving them the freedom to do so is a good thing.

I'd say that if you're concerned about pms directed her way, then agree with her beforehand that her pms should go to a mail account that BOTH of you have the right to access, or that pms to her should be directed to YOUR mail account for you to forward to her.
I'd agree with others on the opinion that this site is generally a safe environment. I'd think getting her to join would be a good way for both of you to surf through galleries together and start talking about photos in a constructive way.
I strongly feel that spying on one's kids is not appropriate. If you can't trust them to respect you and themselves, then you've messed up somewhere along the way. The "it's an evil world out there, and my angels are defenseless without my protection" argument is flawed, I feel.

In my experience, it's the folks who've decided to NOT have kids who are the ones who really SHOULD have kids.
The folks who really SHOULDN'T have kids tend to breed like rabbits.
