OK, so I just bought an Alien Bee B800 monolight, which comes with a sync cord. I went to plug the sync cord into my camera, but much to my horror the camera does not seem to accept this type of connection (it's called a PC connection). Do I need to buy the separate adaptor that connects to the camera's hot shoe, or am I just missing something here?

Thanks for your help!

Yep, you need the hotshoe adapter.

I can't speak for the Rebel, but I have a hot shoe adapter for my Pentax that solves the same issue. They aren't expensive, and with the Alien Bee's, they are voltage-safe.

Keith, I have the hotshoe adapter and no longer need it. If you will pm me your address, I will send it out to you.

I was just using this exact setup today. Looks like Nova to the rescue. Very generous of you. ;-)

Well thank you :) There seems to be a lot of rancor around dpc lately, I just thought a little friendly gesture might nudge the atmosphere in a better direction.
