We do have a general forum for non photography stuff. The site isn't only about photography, there is a general community here as well. Not all material is really acceptable still. I didn't see the thread so i don't know exactly what it was, but if it was that ipod piramid scheme it's probably not supposed to be here.

One is related to photography. The other isn't. We allow latitude on the advertising rule for photography-related content only, since it is directly relevant to the site. Free ipods are not directly relevant to the content of the site.

There is no double-standard. This has been the site policy for as long as I can remember (and I've been here almost as long as the site has).

To state it another way: We generally allow established users to make posts that are non-photography OR advertising. We do not allow anyone (even established users) to make posts that are non-photography AND advertising.

Either way I am now glad I didn't renew my membership last night and I will seriously be considering my furter involvement in this site. I have six days to decide but you guys ruined it with a good member challenge.

I don't see what the issue is, personally...

It was spam, it got deleted. Do you know of any other forums where a similar post would not get deleted?

A few members of the administration have already stated that they make exceptions for members who want to post for-profit referral links as long as it's photography related. Is it that hard to understand? It's their call, besides if the person had just put the ipod referral link in his signature like everyone does with their stock photo referrals, nothing probably would have been done.

People you are not listening. I agree that spam should not be allowed. Let me say it again. I AGREE that spam should not be allowed

But if you post "Come top my site to buy photography equipment" it will not be deleted. But it is spam. Either way I renewed my membership for 1 month. I will at least be able to enjoy the "Free Study", "Best of 2005", and maybe "Singled Out". Then I may move on. I have a month to decide now.

People are listening, you just don't seem to be understanding.

(By member, I mean someone who has been here awhile, not necessarily paying.)

1. If you are a member and you post PHOTOGRAPHY spam (within reason), that's okay.
2. If you are a member and you post general discussion that is not photography related (within reason), that is fine.
3. If you are a member and you post non-photography related spam, that is not okay.

In summary, things photography related are okay. Things non-photography related that are NOT SPAM are okay. Things NOT PHOTOGRAPHY RELATED that are SPAM are NOT OKAY. Hope that clears things up.

If we're only going to talk photography, boot the posts that are not photography related. PLEASE?

If we're going to talk more than that, STFU and let us do it however we see fit. If the post sucks, nobody will reply. If they do, there's obviously some interest in it. If there's interest in it by other paying members of the site, why hide it?
