People often complain that there are never good photos of me, because apparently I'm hard to catch on camera. The other day, my mother dragged me out shopping (I hate shopping) and I bought lots of ugly shirts to drive her crazy, so just to make up for it I got a nice sweater as well.

Tried to do a more 'formal' portrait type shot. Like those really glaringly bright glamor shots or something? With lots of lights all over the place. Wish I had a backdrop, or rather, wish my mother would have let me hang up some sheets.

Comments please? Thanks.

Nice portraits.

I like the pose of the first one best, although I think a tighter crop/zoomed in more (maybe landscape orientation) would be a little better. And if you could get some lights on the background to smooth it out and get rid of the shadows and lines that might be good too.

The second is good, but looks a little bright on the left (sock and wall)

Thanks for commenting.

The lines and stuff on the wall are from an overhead light with frosted glass...I left it in on purpose but I guess it doesn't work so well.

Tried a square crop and some editting on the background to smooth it out?

I like that quite a bit more, very nice.

I wonder about the light and how you set it up. One of the things I've noticed about the studio portraits is the diffused light so it's not all radiating from one source. Over your light source, try putting a thin piece of paper to diffuse it a bit and then it won't be so spot focused. I like the pose of the first one best but the harsh light from the left is, well, harsh. :) Better than my first self portraits, that's for sure.

I'll try that next time, thank. I just had a naked desk lamp lying on the floor about two inches offscreen, so yeah, it's kind of harsh.

Thanks :)
