I always use a MAC but I have not used a printer with it yet, my friend sold me his EPSON 970C for a good price but it wont print properly, comes out with lines over it, if i put the same printer on my windows machine it prints perfectly, I read somewhere epson and mac have issues.. so what i would like to know is if there is a printer that will print perfect photos from a mac and/or if i can set the epson up to work, i tried the gimp drivers but no change.. any help please...

my friend suggested the cannon pixus 990i

Are there any updated drivers for the Mac on the Epson website?

I've used HP printers for some time (with my Macs) and would highly recommend them. Great quality and excellent speed. If you want to spend the dough, I would suggest the Designjet 90r or Designjet 130r.

I second that. HP printers are great with Mac.

Have you checked with Apple for the Epson Driver?

yes i tried at apple but the driver they reccomend has no difference and is actually a part of the TIGER OSX system already so not really an upgrade. I used to use PANTHER OSX befrore and I believe this driver they supply is for PANTHER users but they will be dissappointed when they download it because it simply does not work.. I have been doing a biot of research and it is apparently no mystery with this conflict with EPSON, I will have to bite the bullet and buy another machine and sell my PM970C, it was a good printer but 7 inks are expensive and i think i will get a 4 ink Canon pixus or see if i can find a HP or somethiong that will work straight from the blocks.. What makes it worse is thaty I used to have the Canon 850i pixus but we had a house break-in and i lost the printer along with monitor and several guitars.. bLife goes on

marac,

I use two Epsons here. I have a R300 and the R1800. both perform very well, but the R300 needed a profile adjustment to match the displays. The Epson ICC profile for the 1800 is very very close.

I am not sure how those printers match up with the Japanese models, but in my experience, Epson has always had great support for mac - the only exception possibly being with an older printer that is trying to work on a new version of OSX.

If I were still in Japan and in the market for a printer, I would go Epson. I would avoid canon at all costs due to a wide variety of problems that I've had with them over the years. You might remember the HP printer that I used to have in Usui - it wasnt bad, but I still think Epson blows it out of the water.

You mileage may vary, some assembly required, batteries not included, etc. etc.....

I have just updated my Epson 925 with a R300. The quality is excellent and the price even better. Can't recommend Epson to highly.

I have a mac and the Epson 2100/2200 and they work perfectly together... can't see any reason why other Epsons shouldn't work with a mac...

In regards to the number of inks and whether or not they are separate - while it may not seem so at first, separate ink cartridges will actually save you money in the long run. With the older printers, the carts. were only separated into color/black. When you ran out of one color, you had to replace the entire cart. In the newer printers, you can simply replace only the color you need at the time. Lastly, when you get a printer with separated inks, in most cases you are improving your print quality/color by using specific inks that deliver better color accuracy.

Whatever printer you decide to purchase, have a look at the ink costs before you buy. In some cases, you can spend more up front, but save on running costs.
