I am trying to remove my photos from my regular computer (need space) to this external hard drive. I noticed that when you copy them over from My pictures to the external drive the folders that are created do not have the 4 little pictures showing up any longer. The copied folder just shows... well a folder.. So my question is,,,, can you set something to make the little folder show the 4 tiny pictures? Hmmmm I wonder if this question even makes any sense. Oh well just thought I would ask..
Not sure if I even phrased the question correctly. Very limited here on computer skills... Ok you can all stop laughing now... Aloha Renee :) |

Try right clicking on the folder and select properties. Choose the customize tab and set the folder type to pictures. You can choose the pictures in the space underneath.

Oh so sorry that is not working. I see the little picture under preview in the Customize tab but then when I hit apply at the bottom it does not change the folder. Hmmmm. Any other suggestions. Thanks again. :) |

Do you have subfolders in your main folder? On my external drive, the main folder (f:\photos) won't show the thumbnails but the subfolders will. Even when the folder type is set to document. Do your subfolders show thumbnails?

you need to go into the folder and select the view type "thumbnails" and then let it create the thumbnails. It won't create the pictures on the parent folder unless you have a current thumbnail file in the folder (which windows creates for you) |

Even that doesn't do it for my main folder.

In your main folder where you have your individual photo folders, change the view to thumbnails. That did it for me.

Your main folder will not show pictures on it but if you hit properties on your main folder choose custumize tab choose photo file and apply to all subfolders all subfolders will show thumnails on the folder. |

You can also change your icon to the same as your main harddrive icon through the custumize tab in properties by going to the bottom of that page where it says change icon browse through the selection and you will find the pic folder icon. |

I don't think she wants to change the icon on her folders. She wants the photos inside to show up on the outside of the folder. You know the 4 small pics.. Just going to view/thumbnail while in the main folder will do that.

WOW I will try again. Thanks so much for all of the responses. I do not have subfolders in my folders. When I download the photos from my card it creates a little folder by date. I just leave it that way since it always showed those 4 little pictures I could easily find my photos. Not very efficient I know.. One day I may change.. Thanks again to everyone for the responses.. |

When you download your photos from your camera into (my pictures) the dated folders with the four little pictures are your subfolders, (my pictures) is your main folder, now all you need to do is go into your external hard drive and create a new folder, right click on that folder and go down to properties, left click on the customize tab, where it says what kind of folder do you want left click the little arrow pointing down and left click on pictures (best for many files) under that there is a little box and off to the side it says apply this to all subfolders, check that box then left click on apply, now on that same window at the bottom there is a change icon button, left click on that and a window will open with all of the icons that are on your computer, scroll across unil you find the (my pictures) icon, left click on that and left click on ok, when your done it should be exactly the same as your pictures folder on your main hard drive, good luck, I hope this helps. |
