I haven't done any studio work in the past, but cold weather pushed me to do some experimenting. This was a quick lighting test, so the composition is weak (bad crop of right arm etc.), but I would like to get some input on the quality of the light and what I need to add or remove. I tend to like very simple portrait lighting so I started as basic as possible. One home made fluorescent light fixture to by right, reflector to left of subject, and seamless gray background paper.
I'm going to set everything up and experiment some more later this evening, so any advice will be put to use.

Garage is short, but I do have some room to bring her forward. I will definitely try that tonight.

You could also do that with a very small source but I was talking about giving the girl a little backlight which makes girls look good. |

I'd light the background to either wash it out, or, if you gel the light,color it. A hairlight from above will light up her hair, make it shine and overall, make her stand out from the background.
