I don't get all this excitement with numbers; I mean I wish I did, but I don't. What does one do with it all? Does good come of this? World peace perhaps? Holy crap, someone tell me because I just am not getting the meaning ...

Math is the language of the universe. Its significance is really in us trying to learn more and more of that language as it helps us understand the universe. Simple things such as the shape of a snail shell being a mathematical phenomenon called a "fractal"..it just helps us understand that there is order and predictablity in our lives. Sort of like a religion, in some respects, but not nearly as "faith" based.

I'm absolutely thrilled by this news. I can't wait to put it to practical application.

Hmmm, I see. That helps - I like your answer. But, there doesn't seem to be any order or predictability to my own life - my numbers must really be a jumble! I'm going to go ponder awhile ...

The "practical application" of this is better encryption and security on computers, harder to crack national secret codes...and easier to break enemy codes...

It's not very useful for your home budget, no.
