Hmmm... sounds interesting... Need to check with the wife!
Edit: I've been looking for an excuse to head down to Charleston... maybe it'll break me out of my photography funk

Actually, my attendance will hinge on a couple of things - the paycheck and my mother's health (she's in hospital at the moment and it doesn't look good).
If I do go, I will be bringing the kids with me. We'll stop in Columbia, visit EdVenture and possibly the State Museum, jump down to Charleston, get a room, and hit the Aquarium the go out to Ft Sumter and maybe swing back and see the Yorktown if we have enough $$.
Assuming the trip happens, any and all are welcome to join us at any point (but you'll have to get your own hotel room! :P) |

Sounds like a GREAT idea to me. I would head down on Saturday and spend Sat. night. Hmmmm... I could probably convince the wife and my parents could babysit... The more I think about it, the more I like it. |

At the risk of threadjacking, could we call this a SC GTG? Maybe have SC change the thread title? |

How old are the kids? Mine are 6 and 4 (both girls) and seeing as how we homeschool, this will be as much an educational trip for us as a photography trip for me. (Of course, the educational part of the trip may well be that I learn never again to take a 6 and 4 year old to ANYthing...) :) |

I would love to take my son, but he's only 8 months old so the only thing we would learn is how fish respond to a screaming child! ;-)
I try to go to Charleston at least once a year and we went to the aquarium back in March of last year. My wife and I love the city, there are plenty of great photo-ops. We normally stay at the Vendue Inn at waterfront park (it's incredibly convenient to not have to worry about parking during our stay). I'm actually very excited about the possibility of going down. My wife informed me of another obligation we have that weekend, but I'm checking to see if we can get out of it. If so, I'm booking reservations tomorrow!
Edit: I started another thread to see if anyone was interested in an impromptu SC GTG, but I don't think we have many DPC'ers around here.

Sara... I re-read the Community Appreciation text on the SC Aquarium website. It looks like it's limited to the local community. This may mean that if you're not a resident of Charleston, you may not qualify for the $1 admission. Then again, it may apply to SC residents. I'm just not sure, but it may be worth checking in to before you pack up your family and head there (unless you were planning on doing so anyway).
It looks like we can't really get out of our prior obligations after all so unfortunately I'm not going to be able to make it that weekend. We are, however, planning a road trip sometime late February/early March that will involve Myrtle Beach, Georgetown, Charleston, then continuing on to Jacksonville FL. If anyone is interested in a SC/GA GTG in any of these locations during late February, early March, we can start making plans. There don't seem to be a lot of active DPC'ers in the southeast US, but I thought I'd throw out the suggestion. It would be nice to meet up with some of you guys to learn more about photography. |

Lee,
We managed to make it last year and got the $1 admission. No one in line that we saw was asked for id or where they were from. I will be sure to call ahead, though, if it looks like we'll be able to make it.
Would like to get together with ya'll at some point - keep me updated on the Feb/March trip. Don't know how much you'll learn from me, though. I'm pretty much a complete amateur, and in a lot of ways, still a newbie to the whole photography biz.
