it's probably the orientation sensor, or part of the flash thingy. IF it's one of those it's normal. |

It's probably the pop-up flash mechanism (normal). If you pop the flash up and hold the metal catches, I'll bet it doesn't rattle anymore. |

thought of that too. When i got my rebel XT out of the box I also heard a noise as if something was loose (and I also was afraid somethin was f*cked up). It were the little metal pieces that pop up the flash :) |

Put your ear near the flash (while the flash in down). See if the noise is coming from there. If so, that has been an issue with the XT since it came out. When I purchased my XT I though something was loose so I called the place I purchased it and the said the same. Not wanting to take there word for it I called Canon and they confirmed.
It will not effect your camera's quality or create a problem down the road. When the flash is closed the mechanism that pops up the flash when you push the button or auto flash in auto modes is loose and that is what causes the rattle or noise.
IF THAT IS WHERE YOUR HEARING IT FROM. |

Power on the camera, put it in Av or Tv mode, push the small button just below the flash on the left side of the body marked with a lightning bolt. That will pop-up the flash manually (that is how to use fill flash btw), then reach around the flash head and apply slight finger pressure to the 2 silver linkage pieces that pop up the flash and shake again while holding them. Quiet now? Release fingers off linkage and shake - rattle?
If yes to both, it's normal. |
