I saw some lumiquest products in a netstore that are not that expensive and I just wonder which one is better and what are the differences.
They both fit on the flashgun with velcro. One is a small softbox with light loss of 1 1/4 srops and the other is a reflector with light loss of 1 1/3 stops.
Not sure what teh difference in the lighting effect will be.
Anyone with some good advice. |

Depending on the use and subjects.

bouncer
box
I just got a SIgma flash and want to generally try and reduce the harshness of the ligth and shadows, I find reflecting from the walls etc very unreliable and want something where I can predict the results a bit better.
No specific function ther than that. |

I'm pretty much a die-hard Lightsphere fan. We have the original one and the new one, use them with our Canon 580ex's and have gotten spectacular results overall. My husband and I both love them, and they have saved our butts in a couple of situations where the lighting basically sucked.
A lot of peeps aren't crazy about the Lightsphere's, but we like them so much we gave away our Lumiquest 80/20, and pocket bouncer thingy because we never used them. |

I have and use both on a regular basis. My 80/20 bounce is great for indoor shots (especially people). The soft box is great for creating a softer lighting effect either inside or outside (makes for a nice soft fill flash) |

I made my own- this one covered the on board flash...
all I used was thick cardboard (white inside) and a cut up bedsheet
what can I say- I'm broke! :0) |

All my stuff (until the new lights come that is) is the same and I think I will probably still use a lot of it even after the lights come. Old picture frames make great frames for diffusers and picture frame parts make for great frames for light cubes and such. |

Once I got a Lightsphere, I threw away all the other crap I used to stick on my flash.

I've used my Bouncer (the same one you have shown) for years. It's outlasted 3 flashes. I highly recommend it for most situations. The softbox would probably do better for portraits.

Get the soft box you will have more control of your light, Bounce will throw light everywhere is harder to control, but if you need to throw light everywhere for fill then that would be good, but if your using it for a key make sure you get the soft box |

I have a reallly simple home made bouncer that I have to redesign a bit.
I need to fix the shape of it. I was considering to but the bouncer to replace it, but now I think I'll get the softbox and hold on to the homemade bouncer a while longer.
This way I can compare results my self.
Thanks for teh replies and advice, it helped me make up my mind.
Happy new year. |
