I haven't written a poem in years, but while looking at jsas's portfolio, I found a picture that reminds me so much of where I played as a kid MANY MANY years ago, I was inspired to give it a try.
(photo to be posted later)
Salmon Gulchâ€Â¦
ahh welcome memories of carefree days
so long ago
young girls full of adventure
and the mysteries of life
not contained by the boundaries of our worldâ€Â¦
our world had no boundaries
Salmon Gulch they called it
we never saw a salmon
in the shallow waters of the creek
but perhaps they swam by unnoticed
as we played along the waters edge.
fresh, young imaginationsâ€Â¦
a peculiar shaped rock was a clue to hidden treasures
broken branches were made not by deer
or other wild animals passing through
but were left for us .. a trail made by a kidnapped victimâ€Â¦
only we could save them.
two orphan girls
with nothing to eat but wild licorice roots
dug from the banks of the creek
no home of our own
building rock castles in the water
for crawdads and periwinkles
water skippers and water dogs
pollywogs and frogs
Salmon Gulchâ€Â¦
a magical place with Indian burial grounds
pirate treasures
cougars
bears
a wild boy living under the bridge
sandwiches and cookies left on a fallen log
to save him from starvation
Salmon Gulchâ€Â¦
a secret place where we didn’t dare speak above a whisper
to speak aloud would anger the Indian spirits
who only allowed us to come here if we were quietâ€Â¦
and never harmed an animal...
or stepped on a plantâ€Â¦
gold nuggets hidden in the creek
in gravel and beneath the rocks
countless hours spent searching
with pie pans stolen from our mothers kitchens
not discouraged that the nuggets were not found
there was always tomorrowâ€Â¦
and a new adventureâ€Â¦
such welcome memoriesâ€Â¦

Faye, I'm posting 2 pics here - you can choose which one or do a poem for both. I just think it is great that you are so talented at poetry and are willing to do this.
First pic is of my favorite pug, Napoleon. He always makes me smile.
This second is one of my favorites as I love old wooden things that are falling apart, plus it really depicts a lot of what I have been feeling lately....if you want more details in that regards you'll have to pm me.

Winter Silence
Poised and frigid between pale sky and dark
foreboding waters (as my life seems poised
between torn sadnesses of spirit and heart)
this pier endures even as it falls apart.
I'd take some lesson from it, if I could;
perhaps that nothing suffers less than me,
that all things fail and die in myriad ways,
that life is wasted counting out my days —
For they will end, whether in winter cold
or summer heat, whether I count or no —
perhaps that silence is the only claim
life stakes when it is whispering my name...

Annaâ€Â¦
this is my mommy
mommy loves me
and keeps me safe
mommy plays with me
and gives me food
and helps me dress.
mommy reads me stories
and tucks me in bed
and never never never
lets the boogie man get me.
I love my mommy
Demiaâ€Â¦
my precious Anna, beautiful child
God blessed me so when he gave me you
what an awesome responsibility
what a wonderful privilege
I will guard you with my life
and strive to bring joy and love and happiness
into your life each day.
I will teach you honesty and kindness
and that beauty comes from within
my wish is that you sing and dance and love
and learn the healing power of laughter
my prayer is that you love life
and live life in all its richness.
take my hand sweet Anna
let me guide you on your journey
I’ll teach you to be strong
to stand firm when it counts
and to honor the ways of others
may you have peace and contentment
and love of self above all else
Anna, I love you
Annaâ€Â¦
this is my mommy
she smells good
and shes very pretty
her hands are warm
and she holds mine tight
she makes me eat my jestibles
but that’s ok
that means she loves me.

He's a very soft (as in sensitive) boy. He gets so excited to see me when I come home he jumps all over, then leaps in my lap trying to nip at my earlobes (his nickname is Nipper), and lick my eyes ( he has an eye fetish, lol) He will do anything for me, and is my best pug model. But he does this out of love, because if you tried making him do anything harshly he would get his feelings hurt and just sulk. Mostly he is a couch potato and only wants to lay next to me in the recliner, although he does enjoy going for walks too. He does not play with toys much anymore, as he is a calm mellow natured boy. What makes me smile about him is his face looks so innocent and silly like a child. Napoleon is very sensitive to his surroundings and is a comfort when he knows something is not right - such as if I am sick or just feeling down.
Hope that helps you know Napoleon better.

Linda, you almost wrote this one yourself. You made him real with your description :) Hope this works for you.
Napoleonâ€Â¦Nipper
this one makes me smileâ€Â¦
unconditional love
bundled up in a short, stubby body
with an innocent face
sillyâ€Â¦ like a child.
Excitement when he sees meâ€Â¦
bounding and jumping enthusiastically around the room
(you’re here! you’re here! you’re here!)
until I sit down so he can leap into my lap
to shower me with warm wet kisses
and nibble on my ears
to tell me that he loves meâ€Â¦
I laugh and say “I love you too”
He knowsâ€Â¦
A sweet sensitive boy
this love of mine
he knows me well
and comforts me in his gentle way
when I am sick or feeling down
His greatest joy is to please me
and he proves this by posing patiently
when I need a model
for a photography challenge on DPC
a funny couch potato..
the years have made him so
that’s my Napoleonâ€Â¦
this one makes me smile...

a 1940 Ford? Do you know anything about it or is it a mystery?
It may be this weekend before I get to it. I'm out of town a couple days this week.
It still seems like there is something that could be done to make this old truck pop. It would be awesome if it stood out from the background more.
