What's a good fair priced remote for the Rebel XT?
Thanks in advance. |

I think we paid less than 20 bucks for the official cannon one for my wife's XT. Ebay or Google are your friends.

wired or wireless?
I got a generic wired one for my 300D on ebay for $10. works fine. Wireless ones i think are $25-30.
Each has it's own benefits - to use the wirelss it has to have living batteries, and you pretty much have to be in front of the camera. the wired has a short wire, but can be locked to hold the shutter open for bulb exposures.

I hadn't thought about any inherent challenges that would arise from me choosing one over the other, I'm kinda just going for something that's versatile and pretty much on the cheap side. I'm on a bit of a freeze for buying new photo equipment for the next couple of months, but there are things I want to try that I would need a remote for. |

I have the RC-1 wireless remote for the XT that I'm selling for $20. Let me know if you're interested. |

After reading up some I think I'm going to go with a wired remote Cresus, the having to be frontal and pointing at the camera for infrared to work doesn't apeal currently. Thank you for the response though. |

Thanks for the info Digital, I think I'm going to go with this one, unless I can find something that's got a bit longer cord to it.
Thanks for the prompt response. |

awesome...it's good to know I can get a connector. Do you happen to have a brand name or any serial number/description of what I should look for at the shack?
Thanks again |

Wireless remote = Free.
Using a universal remote for your tv or entertainment with a learning feature. You can just scan someones Canon remote and you have it.

I've got a Nikon but I found a free remote program and profile for my treo 600 to remote control my camera. So... free. :)
Edited because what I had written made no sense.

I have the wireless remote that I used on my 300 and my 350 XT now and it works very well. It was not that much and you don't have to deal with cords. You also have bulb mode witht the wireless too, when in bulb mode you click once and the shutter stays open when you want to close it click the remote again , and again no wires |

I saw that somewhere online and thought that was cool. The only problem is I don't know anyone locally with a canon. The only other two local photogs I know both have Nikon. I'm the odd duck out in that crowd. :-( |

Would the wired not have a similar feature? |

If you plan on shooting from behind the camera body, you might want to put up with the wire, as the wireless reciver is on the front of the body. I find that I end up missing too many shots using the wireless from behind the body. Perhaps it is my Luddite nature, but unless I am in the shot, I use the wire. With the extention cord. |

I'm leaning towards the wired version, and worry about wireless later on down the line. plus I like that I won't be limited by position relative to the camera when I take a shot. |

As far as the wireless remote goes for everyone, I never had any problem as I just stood behind the camera and put my hand in front of the camera to point at it. This way there was nothing touching so I didn't have to worry about camera shake. Either way, good luck. |

I bought the wireless one, it seems to work pretty well. It's pretty easy to put your hand above the camera and point down at it and click the button, and you dont have to worry about wires or anything.

Yes the wired does have the same feature, but it was mentioned earlier that the wired has this feature so I was pointing out the wireless does the same only without the cord. Wouldn't having a wired remote be like having a wired remote comtrol for your TV, what would the advantage be? |
