Good Luck Lisa, our thoughts are with you, the latest news I have just heard is to expect the worst for Western Umina, Hope you and your family are safe.
I have just got back from the scene ( I live about 30km away) and believe me people it is really heartbreaking seeing people being evacuated by boat from some very remote areas. These people don’t know if they will see their homes again.
I always carry my camera with me but there was no way I could bring it out in this situation. Todays temperature was one of the highest on record for this area together with strong winds has made the whole seen something like a disaster film, the rescue workers have been fantastic.
Once again good luck Lisa, it is going to be a hard night but I know Umina people are very strong.

| My daughter Michelle said the same, it was hearbreaking to flee knowing you will never see your house again! I am so anxious for you guys out there... please take care, go if you have to, don't wait or do something stupid like trying to stay behind. Nature is far too strong to try and take on. |

we have the radio on.. just listening to updates. They are evacuating people at the moment up the mountain from me. The last pic is looking up my street.
Just on the news... 490 firefighters are risking their lives for us. Bless them.

make sure everything is packed before your area looses power now that it is dark
find somewhere to bury all your small valubles that you can't take with you and wet the area down
good luck

new update. There is 5 fires burning around us. With this change coming they are worried that they will join and become one massive one.
They also said they think it was the work of arsonists... That makes me so mad. |

| This is time to prepare for the big IF... when they say evacuate there is no time to think. Being positive is one thing be realistic the other side of that same coin. I'm on edge matee, so utterly helpless. All I can do is pray and hope. |

The consumate phoptographer. Her world is on fire and she's worried someone will judge her photograph. I love that. The little distractions are what keep you going. Good luck and God speed.

Well, Lisa's been offline for a while now. Here's the latest local news report:
Bush Fires
She lives at Umina (where the photo leading the article was taken). There has been no reports of any more houses lost in the area, so she should be OK at the moment. |

guess it's a goot time to buy some insurance against fires... and pack all the expensive stuff and all personal items and get it to safe distance from the fire..
and if everything goes against all hopes, at least the personal items are safe, it's the only thing the insurance can't replace.
hopes and prayers form Iceland.. this is one of those catastrophys that can't happen in Iceland, we have no forrest to burn...
