I was taking some photos at the Santa Fe Train Station in San Diego, and got kicked out of the facility by a cop. She told me it was "illegal to take structure's photographs... due to 9/11".

Has this happened to anyone else? I thought it was overkill on her part; but complied and left... for the tram station next door, to take some photos there. :)

it's not that big a deal, the cop probably didn't know what they were talking about anyways. as long as they didn't arrest him or something who cares?

That's no where near the story about they guy going into Canada and getting all the photo's on his laptop "examined" for hours on end by customs officers, including nudes of his significant other. Ya'll must have problems up there, I can't believe you'd accept that kind of harrasment.

I'd rather have a stupid cop trying to protect the country and it's citizens than a stupid cop looking for porn on my laptop.

hahaha! Good old San Diego! I grew up there, and spent my working life there, and they are ANAL. Always have been!

Nice shots...

It's actually not against the law, there was an article on NPR about it, about how photographers all over the country are encountering situations like that, "because of 9/11" but there's no direct law stating that you can't take pictures of structures that are open to the public. There was some photography activist that are working with law enforcement on the issue, but it's been happening on and off for a while now. I hear it's getting more frequent though.

At least your internet connect doesn't go through a government tap like mine.

I worked for The Washington Times about a year ago and due to a client I researched for a political advertiser my internet got tagged to go through a government filter and now they won't take it off.

I am going to get legal help on this but I tell you guys something...it's a strange new world we live in :-/

I was taking photographs of the London Eye a few days ago at night, the cops came to check me out, ran my id through interpol and everything.. when they realized I was not a terrorist they just told me to be careful with such an expensive camera at night in London, no hazzle or anything, just very polite cops doing their job :)

Every country has problems but in the number of them happening in canada is far less compared to the states. And I don't think you have revieled the who story about what happened at the border what you have said doesn't seem like the whole story why was he pulled over? you can't leave out an entire story and use that as a way to be rude. Maybe if you find a newpapier arcitle that explains it all then maybe you have the right to be rude. lay off

And what I said was not ment to offened it was said form my point of veiw and just my point of view

Guy flew into airport, customs flagged his laptop for review. Found photo editing software. Was ushered into office and kept there for hours without explanation. Not allowed to call relatives that were picking him up. Guy went through every file on his laptop, supposedly looking for kiddi porn. That's the story, nothing more suspicious than having a laptop and a nice camera on him if I remember.

It wasn't a newspaper article, it happened to a user on this site.

The scary part is how the media complies with all of these breaches of civil liberty. I worked in the newspaper services for over 5 years and I am telling you....this whole patriot act and post 9/11 thing has changed our freedoms and even has the media scared.

post script.....When I approached Adelphia Media services about my tap..they at first would not even admit to it...I produced trace routes a computer friend of mine did identifying all the servers and main H.Q. finally admitted to having this "service" they must adhere to for "high risk" connects. The local provider could not even identify what was going on.

I don't pertend to know why he has flagged and do you know why he was flagged? they must of had a reason? And don't get me wroung but canada is very connected to the us so we tend to follow suit on things like border control, and a number of other issues. so it is just a result of the change in the us after 911.

That's hilarious! When a US cop does it she's "harrassing". When a Canadian customs agent is looking for porn, he must have been flagged for a reason.

Chill dude, I'm not upset if you think I am. Sorry if I came across that way, but I'm not. No worries.

I'm sorry if I sorta skipped the funny part..it's just this whole deal has me really pissed off. I have been fighting this for over a year and it's really frustrating. I even had one lawyer tell me "As long as you don't surf kiddie porn or go to any radical Islamist sites...they will probably leave you alone"

This is a lawyer!!! If I had freaking time to get off work I would travel to Washington D.C. and fight this whole facist patriot act thing...

Anybody see the plans to invade Canada on the news the other day?
