I saw an add in the ritz magazine for this... the discription is---
500 watt photo-flood studio lighting kit includes everything you need to get started! includes two reflectors, stands, cables and more!.... its going for $119.95 so what do ya think??

It's a photoflood kit...so basically a socket with a photoflood bulb.

You could acheive the same affect for less at Lowes or Home Depot with clamp lighting and a photoflood bulb.

Plus...photofloods are very, very hot. If you shoot at home in a small room you will burn up every day except in deepest winter. And they are dangerous if you want to try and difuse them with vellum or another fabric if you get too close to the light.

That said....every studio has photofloods for use as hotlights and modeling lights and are good for cheap continuos lighting situations.

P.S...You can get the same kit cheaper still...

Smith Victor kit for $94.95...

I would go to the hardware store and buy clamp-ons with a photoflood bulb myself however...if you don't have anywhere to clamp these lights to then it might be worth the kit...you are paying the extra dollars for the stands anyway.

I certainly think anybody building an in-house studio could use a set of photofloods at some point and even $100 is not a lot to risk.

As far as flashes go..either the Nikon SB600 or SB800 are the best way to go.

B&H has the Nikon SB600 for the same as the Ritz one and is a far better flash for you

Nikon SB600

Ritz is not the best place to look for deals :-/
