How reliable are some of these advertisers on DPC?
One for instance is GeniusCameras.com. They sell the 24-70mm f/2.8, 70-200mm f/2.8 and the 100mm f/2.8 USM for a combined total of $347 less than B&H. I was gonna order these 3 lenses today from B&H until I saw them on here.
Anybody ever heard of them or bought anything from them?

Only one I know that was on the Google ads sis Amvona.com
You can get their stuff MUCH cheaper on their e-bay store though.

| DPC doesn't vouch for any of the sellers that advertise. The best thing to do is check resellerratings.com before you buy. Genius Cameras, for example, has a completely abysmal rating. |

If D&L know they have an abysmal rating then why allow them to advertise on this site. I know the money D&L make off advertisement could in no way justify the the damage to this sites reputation if someone gets screwed by one of these fly-by-night organizations. Being a paid member I would like to think that companies allowed to advertise here are reputable. But maybe the almighty dollar rules.

DPC has nothing to do with it... the ads are served by Google! And, while they claim to be "strict" on advertisers, they don't do much as far as taking care of consumers.

You mean to tell me the owners of this website have no control over who advertises on their website?
If D&L are paying Google I'd suggest they do something more constructive with their money.

Yes, they could get direct advertising deals, but getting Google adwords installed was easier.
I've suggested actual targeted banner ads before, but no one wants them really.
I Imaging D&L might be working on it though. Who knows.

Thanks for the heads up guys. I'd rather pay more for my stuff than not get it at all.

Are you referring to the Google ads that appear when you are logged off, or the Pricegrabber pages you can get to from the camera/lens pages?

They don't pay Google. They get money from Google. Google ads are displayed on many, many different sites and serve as a small source of revenue for many website owners.
My personal feeling is that it's each person's sole responsibility to doublecheck the authenticity of the companies they chose to do business with online. Even Amazon, who I thoroughly trust, now allows sellers with less than stellars ratings to sell through them. It's a shame but in the end, it's up to me to check before I buy. I would suggest that everyone do the same. |

You are absolutly right MK. I am solely responsible for my purchases online. That's why I enquired about them first. My opinion is that DPC is to classy of a place to let these type of "rip-off" organizations advertise here. If D&L get money from Google, then they should also have the opportunity to decline such advertisements.

Google AdSense provides context-sensitive advertising (that is, the ads are provided based on the contact of the page on which they are served). The ads are served dynamically (in real-time) by Google. To my knowledge, Google offers no process for a website owner to approve or decline individual ads.

MK, thanks for the advice and for sharing that site. Had I known about it earlier this month, it would've saved me a lot of hassle and stress. I assumed a fairly well-known site was doing a good job, but was proved horribly wrong. I'll check online stores from now on. :) |

No, they don't at all. And, since the ads are not only context-sensitive, but also regionally sensitive a webmaster has no idea of what ads are being served.

Actually, I was looking around adsense, and you can filter on domain names. So if there is a company/website that you do not want ads displayed from, you can easily put their domain name into the filter to block it out.
