Okay....I know these threads come thru all time....but help me out. I'm looking to buy (right now) either a Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro OR the 85mm f/1.8 and I can't figure out which one to get. I have a 5D on the way so there will be no crop factor. I have used the macro, but not a good prime. No real major use for either lens at this time, so would just like to see what you would choose if either one was an option to you.
Thanks.

depends on what do you shoot ?

The 85mm

If you are totally into portrait shots, the 85mm is a winner. If you do any macro, I would say go with the 100mm and pick up a 50mm/1.4 as well - couple of steps forward or backward and you have the 85mm covered, plus you now have a faster lens and an awesome macro lens. If you can afford the 5D, the 50mm won't break the bank for you. :-)

85mm its my favorite I haven't used the macro

Well the obvious answer is BOTH :-) I guess that is a shove not a push. I love the 85 BUT I don't have any interest in macro - so not much help.

It really comes down to what you will use the most.... they are two different styles of shooting.

I have the 100mm macro and the 5D and they work wonders together :)

I'd say get the macro, both lenses are top quality primes, only 15mm difference and f1.8 vs f2.8

the extra speed is tempting, but with the high ISO on the 5D you don't need the extra speed :)
