Iv read lots of post on here, and found that several people mentioned buying the extra extended warranty (the one that covers the camera even if you drop it in the water). Iv also read about insurance.
Im NOT a pro, I only am a hobbiest. I bought myself a D50, SB600, and I also have 3 lenses that I bought, plus 2 mem cards. Roughly 1500 worth of equipment in my bag.
The question I have, why would anyone want to buy the camera store warranty or insurance (they tried to hard sell me when i bought mine), when you can get a personal property policy for pennies on the dollor.
I have StateFarm insurance for my home and auto. I called my agent about insuring my camera and he told me that my home owenrs covered it. Thats fine, except I have a 500 deductable. I asked him if they had anyhting I could get for just the camera, and he told me about that personal property insurace, and I found out, its 25 a year roughly.
I thouhgt that was a good deal, considering what the camera store charges. That is with no deductable as well.
So, the question, am I the only one who has seperate insurance on their gear, or do most just use the home owners or store policies? |
