What gets someone on your favorites list rather than a photo faved? I was reading the 'what makes a fave a fave' thread and wondered "what makes a fave photographer a fave photographer?"

Now some reasons I know:

1) to keep track of someone whose work you like, ala BradP, skip, Joey, heida..
2) to keep track of friends - DPC friends, IRL friends and people you meet at GTGs

What other reasons do you fave someone? What is most important about the list to you?

To me, favorite photographers means just that, favorite photographers, not favorite people, so the people on mine are people who's photos I consistently like (my boyfriend is on there, but I do consistently like his photography). It'd be cool to have a separate list for dpc friends, but I don't want them getting mixed up with my favorite photogs, particularly as my list grows...

Everyone on my list is there because I like their work. There are probably some who should be on there and aren't, but I'm lackadaisical about updating it.

Both Mavrik. I have actually suggested being able to organize your favs kinda like you do you port. This way I could make a folder for friends......etc.....etc.....etc

I have a few pals on my fave photog list to have easy access to their profiles but in general anyone who I feel does or posts consistently great work that's worth being able to find quickly for inspiration (and all the jazz) those are the ones that make the list...

Which reminds me...I need to add a few people

Nearly everybody on my list has an average vote received above 6.0. Totally arbitrary, but I wanted to see common threads among these people.

It's usually someone whose portfolio I have looked at and really liked. If I notice that someone has a couple of pictures in my favorite pictures list, I usually put them on the favorite photographers list.

I have folks on my list whom I know in real life, and I also have folks who inspire me in a way (also some of the folks I know in real life also do inspire me).

But anyway, I'm pretty selective. If I can relate to someone's work in a strong way or it inspires me to do something then I will select that person.

Good stuff - I often wonder if the top people on the site sometimes have few faves cuz they dont think we're honestly that good or because they are too busy creating images to bother with the list. lol

Thanks for all the input. :)

your 2 reasons.&

for me just to fav. some1 out side those...
not only must i like there style (of photography) and their work but it is imparative that by revisiting them i can study and learn what makes their photographs "tick" so to speak.

also it is always fun to see the world through anothers eyes, and that is what photography enables us to do for each other, just like drawing or painting, we share our visions with eachother, we share our stories, and are split-second freezes of time...what we saw (with editing what we wanted to see or saw all along but it just didn't exist to the degree we saw it to [its potential])
so i look and mark my favs. based on who shows me what they see in the most multifasited and amazing light.

for some it is simple for some it is dark for some it is hard but they overcome its turbelence and rise to a very beautiful level.

truly i mark a photographer as a fav. because i see them as an artist. and i see the work as something to be respected and visited for study and sight.

i will mark a photograph for the same reason. art

For anyone who might be wondering, you are all allowed to place me in your fav's at any time. I won't hate you for it I swear.

among the reasons you posted, I also choose a fave fotog based on kind conduct. I think fotography is also about attitude. You get to see lots of diffrent kinds of attitude here at dpc & as you get to 'know' someone here, their fotos tend to take on new meaning.
