I figured the other thread was too big to be poking my nose in with this question.
Is thes phenomenon a lot of people work on?
why do you set it up within a blog does that get more exposure?
do you learn much through this process, or is it more of a "just take a photo of anything and get it done with" instead of searching for a great photo that day?
does it help you at all?
i never heard of it til i saw it in some signatures here at dpc.
please give me the scoop without re-directing me to a bunch of pre-typed blah on another site.
thanks in advance

This is my first attempt at doing a PAD, so not sure if it is a phenomenon a lot of people work on or not. I decided to try this for severla reasons. I think it will be fun, I can look back over the year and se what my tendency is (to get better, or to get lazy and shoot anything), and to share every day in the year, a little piece of my world with others.

I'm nearly at the end of my PaD (2 more days to go, woohoo!), and I've found that I've learnt a heck of a lot thru sheer experimentation, but I've also discovered that I go through periods of zero-imagination where shooting is more of a chore. But hey, I'll analyse my experiences in greater detail once it's all over, 20/20 in hindsight etc :o)

When I did this for the beginning of 05, it basically taught me to carry my camera with me everywhere and always find a way to make something ordinary seem interesting. I've probably produced more personally significant shots doing this than anything else, especially since I had a lot of emotional upheaval during those few months, and when I look back at the photos I took then it's like instant reminiscence.

I'm mostly doing it again just because I want to try to do that again, to document my own emotions by taking a crapton of pictures.

If you're not in the habit of taking your camera absolutely everywhere with you, this is something that might do just that. Although I'm guessing since you have a dSLR it isn't quite a convenient to stuff it in your pocket and climb around on rooftops but still. It's not quite the same experience for everyone, I suppose. EIther way, give it a shot, if you lose interest a few months into it nothing bad will happen to you.

You can check out photoblogs.org also for some more research.

Another person to ask about this is mesmeraj
It seems to have become more of a compulsory exercise in emotive photography for her. A very personal and private thoughts-in-image journal that took on it's own life.

I think the spirit of an actual photo-blog in it's most pure form would mirror one's personal journal, not ones photography projects. Not that there's anything wrong with project-blogging, it's just a different, and probably less interesting read/watch or whatever.

The thing is, it is what you make it, not what other people have told you it is. You can make it a simple "I took this shot today", or you could actually try to express a day in your life via a photo. Something that actually will let others know, and help you remember, what happened that day. What was the most important thing that happened this day, and how do I photograph it? Or you could rigidly structure it and make it an exercise in making you a better photog. Or you could just share photos you like, whatever. It's a tool to be used, not to be conformed to.
