Hello all,
A friend of mine owns/runs a jewelry store and has asked me to shoot some photos of the storefront/inside/merchandise. I have some ideas of what I'd like to do as far as cropping and shooting angles go, but since jewelry is the product I think to produce effective pictures I need to get up close obviously. Now I can definitely photograph the display cases and counters with no probs composition wise, but I don't think this is going to cut it for viewing over the web. It seems to me that the items are just going to be too small to really see the detail and quality on. I'm thinking the way to go since it's for a website is to shoot a couple wide angle pics of the storefront and inside for the main page or banner, and from there switch over to a product photography style for the merchandise pages. I see no reason to include anything else in the shot other than the jewelry since were talking small intricate objects here that you really need a close up of to appreciate the details. I most probably will need to use a lighting setup and plan on shooting close up arrangements involving jewelry displays, stands, and cloth backdrops. I need a lighting arrangement that will give me good definition, detail, and highlights...I'm thinking a light box might be what I'm looking for? I have minimal lighting experience btw. As far as the jewelry stands/backdrop cloths go I'm already covered. What does everyone think of this rough "plan" so far, what should I use lighting wise that I can make cheaply, and any suggestions that might improve my approach are welcome.
Thanks guys |
