I'm sold - going to have to do some serious thinking tonight as I am tempted to spend money saved for Lasix surgery on that same lens. I can get it for under $600 and have about twice that saved up. I can always sell my Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO Macro Super II

I paid a bit more than that, happens with auctions sometimes but was new with all packaging, documentation, lens hood and case. and seller was really communicative and quick.

Crocheted booty sounds interesting, but I don't crochet. Maybe I can get my artist daughter to paint some wild scene on the white to hide it. lol

Its awfully large and weighty, should I order the tripod mount for it (and some shoe polish)? so far have only used it handheld.

See if you can borrow one of the 70-200 F/2.8's and you'll soon realise how light and portable the lens is. :-).
You'll get over the weight pretty quickly, once you get a few magic 'L' photos. I'm quite often amazed at the out of the camera quality of some of my shots with the F/2.8, and I understand the F/4 is very similar in the image quality department.
Congrats on the purchase..
Cheers, Me. |

Cindi, Just thought you should know! I dreamt (is that a word?) about that dang 70-200L all night, thought about it first thing this morning, and off and on all day!!!!
And now Linda/Shutterpug has went and bought one! I think DPC is becoming a bad influence on me :)
PS: Instead of knitting a coozie for the lens you could buy one of those wienie warmers in joke stores but it would cover the whole camera too....not sure they make one big enough! :)

You don't really need the tripod mount for this lens. If you have a solid tripod head it works fine on the camera mount. The tripod mount is balances things better, especially in vertical orientation, but it works finr without. I don't have the tripod mount and I use mine on the tripod all the time; virtually never hand-hold it.

ok - there is one thing worse than an update button on DPC....the ability to track your B&H order. I'm going nuts checking back every few hours only to see my new L lens is still in the processing order stage. Heck I placed my order around 3:30am - I would have thought it would have shipped today. lol
I should have paid the extra to have it shipped a faster route than 3-5 day UPS...I have no idea how I'll sleep until it gets here.

no hijacking of brown trucks - just dropped an email to B&H though to change my shipping to next day. lol I am soooo impatient....that is probably my biggest downfall.
