Help me! I'm visiting my sister for the holidays, and I've been helping her update her computer [antiviruses, firewalls, etc...] She had a windows update icon in her taskbar; turned out it was for SP2. I got the install going, and then about half way through the computer shutdown. When nothing happened, I turned it back on. I don't think it was suppposed to shut down... =] It booted up and said that the setup had been interupted. I was going to remove the partial installation, but my control panel won't open up. The computer is also running really slow.. HELP! What do I do?

She's running XP SP1 on a Dell Inspiron 5100.

Reboot in safe mode and choose "last known good configuration" .. hopefully that will roll you back prior to the install.

You can also try System Restore if it is turned on. Hopefully you have a restore point that was set yesterday.
