What are the differences, are they important?
I know the Sigma is cheaper but will it be as good as nikon for D70? |

I donno the Sigma, but Nikon has a spectacularly good rep for the quality of their flash systems. I'd go with the Nikon unit for that reason alone. It's a lifetime investment.

Another thing I would check is to see if it (the Sigma) is iTTL compliant. The SB 600 and SB 800 are specifically made to work with the newer electronics in Nikon cameras and lenses. They are pretty smart and you would seldom find yourself needing to run it on manual. Not sure about the Sigma.

Thx for the directions.
As it says in jpeters' thread the 500 DG super is iTTL compatible and I know that it also works wirelessly with the d70. It s suppose to be especially compatible with the d70 (I think).
The point it this: I got a Sigma for christmas and was wondering if there is any point in trying to sell it and get a SB600, or is it good enough...

Now that you've got it in your hands, I'd say that you should give it a good workout and get used to using it. Although the Nikon unit is probably better in some respects (as much as the Canon 550 is better than the respective Canon-dedicated Sigma flash), I'd suggest that it's not so much better that you should get into such mucking around.
It can, indeed, take quite a bit of playing around to get used to using a flash effectively.
