I just got a Sigma EF-500 ST flash for my D70s and I can't get it to fire in TTL mode. I don't have my camera manual with me so I was hoping someone here could be of assistance.
Thanks a bunch in advance!

Is your camera set to TTL in the flash menu?

The camera and flash are both set to TTL. If I set the flash the manual it will fire, but not TTL.

I don't have the sigma...I have a nikon SB800.
Are there settings for "slave" flash on the flash?
I wish I could be more help...does the manual help?

There's very little to the flash manual. It basically just tells you how to adjust the angle of the flash and put it on to the camera. The only settings on the flash itself are OFF-TTL-Mh-Ml.

Thanks for trying. I'll give it a few bumps like you said. I figured most people wouldn't be hanging around their computers today, but I figured I'd give it a shot anyway.

Are you on shutter priority? If so, check your shutter speed; TTL won't flash if shutter speed is not within sycnh range, I don't think, but I'm not sure. I don't know the Nikon's synch speed, but 1/125 would be safe for testing.

Not sure if this is the problem, but the D70 has i-TTL flash not TTL flash. The sigma flash comes in different modles for different cameras. I think the modle you need is EF-500 DG ST NA i-TTL Shoe Mount Flash (Guide No. 165'/50 m at 105mm) for Nikon AF with i-TTL. Check out the sigms site for more info. I had a to change from the SB-80DX TTL flash to the SB-800 i-TTL flash when I changed from film to digital.

Put in fresh batteries. I had a similar problem and fresh batteries fixed me right up. |

I think that's it. I didn't realize their was a separate i-TTL model (Sigma's website is misleading). I found the i-TTL model on BHPhoto.com though. Thanks Len. Now I just need the extra $40. Can anybody help me with that?
