Christmas Eve/Christmas Day might be the WORST possible time to find people online, though. An amazing number of our members actually have families and lives... Anything I can help with? I currently have neither, LOL.

I am currently at work watching the network do nothing. So, ostensibly, I'm available too.

I was afraid it had to much contrast. I liked it, but you never know what other people will think. ;o) I wish I could of printed them on a 2400 instead of my 2200. I'm glad you liked it.

Ok then. I wanna do some senior pics at my daughters high school for some kids that can't afford them professionally. I want to know how to resize them accordingly so they don't get ruined.
I directed this Prof only because I knew he had done senior pics before and the answer was prolly a simple one.

I feel the same way about my username entry. The shot is so much sharper then it looks downsized for the web. Some places just look better on the winter solstice! ;o)

I'm not sure who I'll get to do that. Probably the local store or something

I've never had a problem with any printer I've tried, saving for web is so much different than the normal process.
I simply send the files off to Walmart or Shutterfly, and everything generally looks great. (Shutterfly does tend to oversaturate, watch for that)

I'd print some samples at 4x6 5x7 and 8x10 to see if you like it first, but stores like walmart usually do a good job sampling the images in my experience.
I hate walgreens, which I've used through Snapfish, they never have matte paper so everything is glossies. Can't stand glossy.

So does that mean I don't have to resize them at all? Just send the files and specify what I need?

My Walgreens only has glossy to. You have to mail order the matte finish. We have another drug store that does matte unless you tell them you want glossy

I resized my christmas card clients thru walmart just so I could have a decent download time but you don't have to at all. |

I always just send off the full size images yes, they'll resample to whatever dpi that their printer can do, so sending the full resolution image would be best.
Like I said, do a couple of test and see how you like them.
Come to think of it, I might try running a test like that, resampling to 8x10@300dpi and then sending an un-resampled image and see how it goes.
I like the ability to get 1-hours back from Walmart, so I use them often. I donn't want to have to go into a store first and upload them, I like uploading them and then going there when I knew I was going out anyways, or just sending them off and picking them up the next day with the groceries.

Nothing wrong with wierd. Most people refer to me as wierd. I think the camera draped around my neck all the time intimidates them.

Read thru the thread...i see the question!
Current workflow...
I try to shoot RAW, just in case. I concert to JPG at 300DPI in DPP, no sharpening.
In PS i sharpen 300%, .3, 0 unless it is mostly a close face shot, then .7. Up the sat a bit (5-7) and sometimes do curves to increase contrast. Each is done on a layer just in case i want to alter something.
I either crop first of last (after flattening). I set the crop tool to 5in 7in or whatever i need the print to be and specify NO PIXEL VALUE. I then go and adjust the DPI in the IMAGE SIZE on teh menu to 200 dpi. If it is below that for some reason (severe crop) then i keep it above 170dpi or upsize resampling 10% at a time, 3 times. You will need to resharpen at this point.
For web i resharpen, for print i do not. I use www.winkflash.com and am very satisfied (5x7s are 29c each, 4 wallets are 30c, 8x10 is $2 and shiiping is ALWAYS only 99c) You can pick matte or gloss (i prefer matte) and border or not. There are fancier labs out there, but i have found none cheaper. If i need it quick, walmart one hour, but they hassle me over copyright on 8x10s.
I had winkflash do a 10x13 at 165dpi and it was great, even at a a close viewing distance.
I tend to shoot loose and crop later (i'm working on this 'flaw') And yes, not a senior pic...
Original and crop

I put the proofs in a MyPublisher 6x9 softcover book - 20 pages for $10 and shipping. teh one girl i had a few too many pics, so i did i think 14 or 15 pages and got 86 shots in there. Even at 12c a 4x6 i'dhave spent $11 and the book is harder to copy from and looks cool.
